In an embodiment, a computer memory that is not a transitory has instructions executable by a processor to present on a display of a mobile device a user interface (UI) facilitating media shifting between the mobile device and an audio video device (AVD) separate from the mobile device. The UI has a grid of thumbnails, with each thumbnail being associated with a respective media asset. Responsive to a user touching and dragging a first thumbnail of the grid, a drop region is presented outside the grid indicating that a drop of the thumbnail will cause the media asset associated with the first thumbnail to be presented on the AVD. Responsive to a user releasing the first thumbnail in the drop region, a signal is sent to the AVD to cause the AVD to present the media asset associated with the first thumbnail.

Media sharing between devices using drag and drop gesture

The user of an Internet TV device can control the Internet TV device using a mobile device such as a smart phone. The smart phone also obtains program information from the Internet TV device and sends the information to a server as a search term, presenting supplemental program information received from the server on the display of the mobile device so that a person can browse the supplemental information without disturbing viewers of the Internet TV device. The mobile device can also grab a link related to the program from the Internet TV device and use that link as a recommendation to friends on social networking sites.

The user of an Internet-enabled CE device such as a TV can select an object in a video presented on the display of the CE device by either touch sensitive screen or input device. The processor of the CE device can then determine the boundaries of the object, identify it using face/image recognition software, search for information/websites related to the object, and present those information/websites to the viewer on the display screen.

A display device receive icon or application information from an audio visual application module (AVAM) and presents, on the native UI of the display, a selectable AVAM icon according to the information from the AVAM. The AVAM icon is associated with an application on the AVAM. Display input is automatically switched to the AVAM responsive to selection of the icon from the native UI using the display RC, at which point a non-native UI received from AVAM is presented for navigation using the display RC. Input commands are relayed to the AVAM.

A mobile computing device includes a processor configured to receive position information from a position sensor and a display controlled by the processor. The device also includes a storage medium accessible to the processor and bearing instructions which, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to receive user input to challenge a friend's mobile device to an exercise, upload the challenge to a server, and receive a signal from the server indicating the challenge is accepted. The instructions cause the processor to upload to the server position information at a predetermined start time and receive from the server map information presenting a position of the mobile device and a position of the friend's mobile device. Further, the instructions cause the processor to receive updates of the map information including updates of the position of the mobile device and the position of the friend's mobile device periodically during the exercise.

User device position indication for security and distributed race challenges

A display device such as a TV has both HDMI and IP network interfaces and uses the HDMI interface to exchange IP network parameters with an audio video application module (AVAM) upon HDMI connection. In this way, an IP-based peer-to-peer or client-server network connection can be automatically established to promote faster communication when sharing and executing applications between the devices than is typically available over the CEC link of HDMI.

Automated wireless three-dimensional (3D) video conferencing is provided using a tunerless television device. A 3D video conference is automatically established with a wireless device capable of 3D video conferencing using a wireless communication interface of the tunerless television device. A first and a second two-dimensional (2D) video stream are received, using a camera interface module, from a first and a second video camera associated with the tunerless television device. A merged 3D video stream is created from the first 2D video stream and the second 2D video stream using a 3D video offload processing module operatively coupled to the camera interface module. The merged 3D video stream is sent to the wireless device using the wireless communication interface. This abstract is not to be considered limiting, since other embodiments may deviate from the features described in this abstract.

Automated wireless three-dimensional (3D) video conferencing via a tunerless television device

A method and structure for authentication in a system having devices capable of communicating via multiple signal paths. Authentication is carried out between first and second devices. A first device communicates with a second device over a first data signaling path of an interface between the first and second devices in a first portion of an authentication process. A second device communicates with the first device over a second data signaling path of the interface between the first and second devices in a second portion of the authentication process.

Authentication in an audio/visual system having multiple signaling paths

A method and structure for establishing faster transmission of Consumer Electronic Control (CEC) commands between first and second HDMI-compatible devices. The first and second devices may transmit CEC commands via a shared alternate interface, a signaling path distinct from a standard HDMI CEC interface between the first and second devices. Authentication may furthermore be performed prior to use of the alternate interface to confirm that the communication is authorized.
