There is provided a physical layer security (PLS) system for enhanced cryptographic security and diversity of transmitted data, the system comprising a transmitter for first, converting the data into a plurality of OFDM symbols; second, multiplexing the plurality of OFDM symbols into parallel M OFDM streams; and third, performing spatial interleaving (SI) on the parallel M OFDM streams using a secret key. The system further comprises a receiver for receiving and de-scrambling the transmitted plurality of data samples, wherein software-defined radio (SDR) units are used as the system transmitter and receiver.

Secured and robust wireless communication system for low-latency applications

There is provided an enhanced OFDM communication system using an enhanced channel estimation and data detection techniques. The system is based on replacing pilot symbols by real-valued information symbols, which enables realizing one-shot blind channel estimator (OSBCE) with low complexity. The channel estimator used is equivalent to pilot-based channel estimators for a wide range of signal to noise ratios (SNRs), yet, the OSBCE offers higher power and spectral efficiencies.

OFDM communication system with enhanced channel estimation and data detection techniques

There is provided an ultra-light decoder for high speed digital communications based on block codes such as turbo product codes (TPCs). The new decoder can perform soft decision decoding without an algebraic hard decision decoder, which is the core of conventional soft decision decoders. The elimination of algebraic decoder significantly reduces the number of computations required per codeword, consequently, it reduces the decoding delay and processing power. However, reducing the decoding delay would immediately enable increasing the transmission speed, and minimize the need for large buffers at the receiver. Moreover, reducing the complexity and delay would enable using codes with high code rates to increase the system capacity, or use powerful codes with low code rates to reduce the transmission power. Such benefits can be achieved for about 1 dB loss in coding gain. There is also provided a receiver comprising the ultra-light decoder, as well as a decoding process.

SD decoder for digital communications

In this work, we present a novel receiving device design for communications systems that incorporates multiple antennas at the transmitting device/receiving device. Unlike existing systems, the new system does not require prior knowledge of the channel state information (CSI) at the receiving device side to extract the information symbols from the received signal. Consequently, complexity reduction and bit error rate improvement can be jointly achieved. Moreover, the new system may offer spectral efficiency enhancement since it does not require nulling to prevent the pilot symbols as in the case of conventional systems. The results obtained show that in certain scenarios the proposed system can offer up to 15 dB of bit error rate improvement over conventional systems. Moreover, the new system can provide about 16.6% of the spectral efficiency improvement.

Direct data detection for MIMO communications systems

The present invention proposes a demodulator device, a receiver and a demodulation method for M-ary amplitude shift keying systems (MASK) that requires partial knowledge of the CSI, namely, the channel attenuation coefficient. Therefore, the new demodulator, receiver and demodulation method do not require the knowledge of the channel phase shift. Consequently, no complicated channel estimation techniques are required, and the system will be very robust to the system impairments such as phase noise, I-Q imbalance, etc. In this sense, the new technique is denoted as semi-coherent demodulation (SCD). To reduce the complexity of the new SCD, a suboptimal demodulator is derived which has much lower complexity than the optimal while providing almost the same error probability.

Digital communication receiver using partial knowledge of the channel state information

There is provided a computer-implemented method of estimating transmitted signals in a communication system, the signals being transmitted by a transmitter to a receiver over a communication channel having a channel response, the method comprising estimating the transmitted signals based on generated trial sequences minimizing the channel response between adjacent received signals. There is also provided a receiver, a signal detector device and a communication system adapted to estimated transmitted signals in a communication system by generating trial sequences and determining the generated trial sequences minimizing the channel response between adjacent received signals. The present invention is particularly adapted for OFDM communication systems.

Signal detection in a communication system

A chaotic cryptographic technique for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) based wireless/wired communication systems is implemented with an OFDM symbol structure based on symmetric key cryptography. At the receiver side, data detection becomes infeasible without knowledge of the secret key. Without the knowledge of the key, the signal will be a noise-like signal. The computational power required to implement the technique is very low, rendering the system an attractive option for high data rate communications based on OFDM technology. The system security is proportional to (L&#xd7;N)! where N is the number of subcarriers in the OFDM system and L is the number of OFDM symbols involved in the encryption process. For OFDM applications where &#x2267;256, L may be set to 1 and breaking the system would require N! exhaustive-search trials. In the case that N&#x3c;256, L may be increased.
