A monitoring device and method are provided to monitor a separate device for malfunctions and to control and restore the malfunctioning monitored device to a normal functioning state. A malfunction state includes the monitored device being powered off or in a standby power state. The monitoring device includes control logic operative to determine a malfunction state of the monitored device and to control a reapplication of power to the monitored device to reboot the monitored device based on the determined malfunction state of the monitored device. The method for monitoring and controlling the monitored device comprises the steps of: determining a malfunction state of the monitored device; and controlling a reapplication of power to the monitored device to reboot the monitored device based on the determined malfunction state of the monitored device.

Device and method for malfunction monitoring and control

A device and method are provided that generate an early warning disconnect signal from an electrical connector supplying external power to a connected device. The connected device includes an early warning disconnect power management circuit, operational to generate power consumption control information in response to generation of the early warning disconnect signal from the electrical connector. In one example, the electrical connector includes a lock release mechanism and a signaling mechanism, the signaling mechanism is operationally coupled with the lock release mechanism and configured to generate the early warning disconnect signal from the electrical connector to the connected device prior to the lock release mechanism being in an unlocked state.

The method utilizes the phase angle relation between the fundamental component and the second harmonic in addition to the magnitude ratio. This is accomplished by calculating and utilizing the complex second harmonic ratio. The specially shaped operating characteristic for the complex second harmonic ratio is made dynamic providing for better security without jeopardizing dependability of the transformer protective relay.

Magnetizing inrush restraint method and relay for protection of power transformers

A differential protective relay and method for a microprocessor-based bus differential protective relay that ensures fast and sensitive operation under internal fault conditions and offers improved stability during external fault and other non-internal fault conditions. The method uses a two-slope differential characteristic to cope with small CT transformation errors without reducing relay sensitivity. The method can also use a saturation detector to switch dynamically between the 1-out-of-2 and 2-out-of-2 operating mode depending whether or not the CTs saturate. In a 2-out-of-2 operating mode, both the differential and directional elements must confirm a fault for the relay to trip. In a 1-out-of-2 mode, if saturation is not detected, the relay can trip without checking the fault direction.
