A service based Ringback Tone service that may be personalized by a calling party instead of a called party. The calling party generates and stores an originating profile that contains Ringback Tones or Ringback messages associated with a Ringback Tone subscriber (called party). When the calling party contacts the called party, the Ringback Tone chosen by the calling party and associated with the called party is then sent to the calling party until the calling party answers the call.

Method and apparatus for ringback tone personalization

A media gateway (MGW), and methods related thereto, for controlling the routing of data packets through a &ldquo;connectionless&rdquo; packet-switched network, without bearer-channel control signaling. In an exemplary embodiment, an Integrated Services Digital Network User Part (ISUP) Initial Address Message (IAM) is transmitted from a controller -A associated with a MGW -A to a controller -B associated with a MGW -B; the IAM includes a source address for data packets at the MGW -A. The controller -B sends a resource allocation message to the MGW -B, which defines and stores an association between the source address for the data packets and an address associated with the MGW -B in a mapping table Subsequently, when the MGW -B receives a broadcast message including an unknown destination indicator, it queries the mapping table using the source address of the broadcast message. If the source address of the broadcast message is found in the mapping table the MGW -B retrieves the address of the MGW -B that is mapped to the source address and routes the broadcast message to that address.

Connectionless media transmission without bearer-channel control signaling

A telecommunications system and method is disclosed for providing accurate country information to Mobile Stations (MSs) within a satellite network. At the time of location update, the MS sends Global Positioning System (GPS) coordinates identifying the location of the MS to a serving Mobile Switching Center (MSC) via a satellite. The MSC determines the identity of the current country that the MS is located in, and calculates the distance to the nearest country border. The current country identity and distance information are transmitted back to the MS via the satellite. Thereafter, the MS continues to calculate GPS coordinate information, and if the distance between the current location of the MS and the location of the MS at the time of the previous location update becomes equal to or greater than received distance information, a query is done to the MSC to determine the current country where the MS is located. If the country has changed, then the new country is displayed on the MS.
