Methods and systems for a powertrain power management in a vehicle with an electric motor, and an engine are disclosed. The methods and systems involve a powertrain that is operatively coupled to the engine and the electric motor, and an optimizer module operatively coupled to the powertrain. The optimizer module receives an operator information to travel a route from a remote management module, receives current route information for the route from a mapping application in response to the operator information, measures current vehicle status information for the hybrid vehicle, and decides a power management strategy for the vehicle based on the current route information and the current vehicle status information.

Method and system for controlling a powertrain in a hybrid vehicle

At least some embodiments of the present disclosure are directed to systems and methods for controlling a cylinder deactivation (CDA) operation for an electrified powertrain, the electrified powertrain comprising an engine and an additional power source, the engine having a plurality of cylinders. The method includes the step of operating the electrified powertrain in a CDA mode and deactivating one or more selected cylinders of the plurality of cylinders; receiving measurement data indicative of operating conditions of the electrified powertrain; analyzing the measurement data to determine whether a predetermined operating condition is met; and adjusting the CDA operation by adjusting the duration of the CDA operation or changing a number of deactivated cylinders.

Systems and methods for controlling cylinder deactivation operation in electrified powertrains

The enclosed disclosure relates to hybrid vehicles and systems with an engine, a drivetrain with a clutch and a transmission, an electric machine, and a controller. The controller receives lookahead information within a lookahead window and present state information of the hybrid vehicle. The controller determines a predicted coasting opportunity exceeding a predetermined threshold within the lookahead window and determines a cruise control reference speed, a power split between the engine and the electric machine, and a timing of enabling engine-off coasting during the coasting opportunity. The controller deactivates the engine and disengages the clutch at a start of the coasting opportunity when the engine-off coasting is enabled.

A system has a pump and an injector coupled to the pump. The system further comprises a controller coupled to the pump and the injector. The controller is structured to: determine a change of reductant flow relative to a change of pump rate of the pump; and generate a status command indicative of at least one of an under-restricted injector or an over-restricted injector in response to the determination of the change of reductant flow relative to the change of pump rate of the pump.

One embodiment is a method of operating an electronic control system (ECS) to control an engine to propel a vehicle. The method comprises receiving a throttle command, determining an operation to increase engine cycle efficiency by reducing engine torque below a magnitude corresponding to the throttle command and below a torque curve limit over a first vehicle operation segment and permitting an increase in engine torque above the torque curve limit over a second vehicle operation segment, controlling the engine to output torque below the magnitude corresponding to the throttle command and below the torque curve limit over the first vehicle operation segment, and controlling the engine to output torque above the torque curve limit over the second vehicle operation segment in response to a second received throttle command and constrained by an extended limit on operation of the engine above the torque curve limit.

Dynamic torque management techniques for enhanced engine cycle efficiency

A system, method, and apparatus include a controller structured to predict a change in speed of a vehicle in advance of upcoming terrain and inhibit a coasting event if the speed exceeds a limit. In one form a velocity of the vehicle is predicted using a physics based model of the vehicle within a look ahead window in front of a vehicle. Such a look ahead window can be distance or time based. In another, speed of a vehicle is monitored during a coasting event and is compared against a threshold to determine whether to remain coasting or re-engage an engine to a driveline. The threshold is a function of road grade, and permits a larger deviation from set speed at low grade than at high grade. The function can be based on road grade and vehicle weight.

Driveline disengagement and coasting management

A control system, apparatus, and method integrates vehicle speed management and predicted gear shifting of a vehicle by determining current and future engine power requirements from the current and forward-looking route conditions to improve performance, drivability, and/or fuel economy of the vehicle over what is achievable through conventional gear state selection via static calibration tables and conventional shifting strategies. The selection of the vehicle reference speed is responsive to a gear selection to provide increased fuel economy, decreased trip time or combinations thereof.

The controller is structured to interpret, via a pump diagnostic circuit, first and second pump parameters indicative of first and second pump rates, interpret, via a dosing diagnostic circuit, first and second dosing parameters indicative of at least one of (i) first and second reductant flows or (ii) first and second injector characteristics, determine, via a delivery diagnostic circuit, a delivery status based, at least in part, on the interpretation of the first and second pump parameters and the first and second dosing parameters, and generate, via the delivery diagnostic circuit, a status command indicative at least one of an under-restricted delivery mechanism or an over-restricted delivery mechanism in response to the determination of the delivery status.

Apparatuses, methods and systems including dynamic estimations of vehicle mass and road grade estimation are disclosed. One exemplary embodiment is a method including operating a vehicle system to propel a vehicle, determining with a controller a vehicle mass estimate and an uncertainty of the vehicle mass estimate, evaluating with the controller the uncertainty of the vehicle mass estimate relative to at least one criterion, if the uncertainty of the vehicle mass estimate satisfies the criterion, determining with the controller a road grade estimate, and controlling with the controller utilizing the road grade estimate at least one of a vehicle speed and an engine output.
