The present technology is generally directed to spinal cord modulation leads having one or more sidewall openings configured for inserting stylets to steer and/or position the leads within a patient and/or with respect to a pulse generator, and associated systems and methods. In some embodiments, sidewall opening is generally positioned in an intermediate portion of the lead and is operatively coupled to a lumen extending distally to a distal end of the lead, and/or proximally to a proximal end of the lead.

A medical device for conducting electrical signal comprises an elongate member and a plurality of cables. Each cable may have three concentric layers: a first layer with an inner conductor, a second layer with an inner insulator, and a third layer with an outer conductor. The inner insulator electrically isolates the outer conductor from the inner conductor.

Couplings for implanted leads and external stimulators, and associated systems and methods are disclosed. A connector in accordance with a particular embodiment includes a first housing portion and a second housing portion pivotably connected to each other. The first housing portion has an elongated fixed stop opening. The second housing portion has a stop element and a plurality of connector contacts positioned to electrically contact a plurality of connection contacts of a spinal cord stimulation lead. The first and second housing portions are pivotably connected to each other to move between a partially-opened position in which the stop element is in a first location in the elongated fixed stop opening, and a closed position in which the stop element has a second location in the elongated fixed stop opening.
