Apparatus and methods for determining the fluid conductivity of a fluid network. The method includes injecting a nanoemulsion into the formation, the nanoemulsion including a carrier liquid and nanodroplets. The nanodroplets are stabilized within the carrier liquid by polymer-coated iron oxide nanoparticles. After extracting fluid from the formation, a parameter of the extracted nanodroplets is determined. Based on the determined parameter, the fluid conductivity of the fluid network is determined.

Magnetic nanoemulsions for fluid conductivity analysis in subsurface reservoirs

Apparatus and methods for determining the impedance spectrum of materials at elevated thermobaric conditions. The apparatus comprises a pair of electrodes in a sample chamber. The sample may be conditioned within the sample chamber by the application of heat and/or pressure. A controller applies alternating voltages across the terminals at a range of different frequencies and processes the frequency response of the sample to determine the impedance spectrum of the sample. By empirically determining the frequency spectrum of the dielectric properties (relative dielectric constant and conductivity) from the measured impedance spectrum at various temperatures and pressures, the effectiveness of electromagnetic heating in extreme environments (e.g., within an oil reservoir) can be determined.

The present disclosure relates to, according to some embodiments, an extraction process for recovering an oil from an oil reservoir comprising a mobile water. The extraction process includes the step of injecting a first solvent into the oil reservoir through the at least one injection well to form a first mixture, the first mixture comprising the first solvent, a first portion of mobile water, and a first portion of oil. Additionally, the extraction process includes the steps of recovering the first mixture from the at least one production well to produce a first recovered oil mixture, the first recovered oil mixture comprising the first solvent, the first portion of the mobile water, and the first portion of oil; separating the first recovered oil mixture to produce a first recovered oil fraction that is separated from the first portion of mobile water and the first solvent; and injecting a second solvent into the oil reservoir through the at least one injection well to form a second mixture, the second mixture comprising the second solvent, a second portion of mobile water, and a second portion of oil. The extraction process also includes the steps of recovering the second mixture from the at least one production well to produce a second recovered oil mixture, the second recovered oil mixture comprising the second solvent, the second portion of the mobile water, and the second portion of oil, and separating the second recovered oil mixture to produce a second recovered oil fraction that is separated from the second portion of mobile water and the second solvent.

Extraction methods and systems for recovery of oil from reservoirs containing mobile water

This application is related to a system and methods for sampling fluids and gases using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) technology. Specifically the system is related to an improved metallic pipe design for use at oil and gas well heads that includes integral coils for transmitting an NMR pulse sequence and detecting NMR signals and can be used as a component of an NMR instrument. The methods are related to obtaining and analyzing NMR spectra in stationary and flowing states.
