Presented herein are methods, non-transitory computer readable media, and devices for provisioning an application within a network storage system, which include: providing an application template; requesting input into the application template to construct the application in the network storage system and receiving the requested input; validating the input using standard templates for known applications stored within the network storage system; determining storage specifications within the network storage system based on the validated input; and creating storage and protocol objects associated with the application that identifies the storage specifications.

Presented herein are system and method for providing a non-disruptive mechanism for splitting a parent volume located on a first aggregate into a new volume, the method comprising: splitting the parent volume, by the network storage system, into a new volume, wherein the new volume comprises an application; and providing a snapshot of the parent volume at the new volume.

Application granular reporting

Systems and methods for, among other things, providing a storage system which allows for efficient tracking of in-use storage disk blocks using 'sharing nodes'. Disk blocks are a result of low-level formatting, which breaks up the total storage capacity into a set number of blocks. High-level formatting of the disk creates the file system, and part of the file system may create metadata known as inodes, and associate an inode with each file, such that an inode tracks the disk blocks in use by that file, pointing from the file to a set of blocks. An S-node generator creates another type of metadata, complementary to an inode, known as an S-node data structure, such that an S-node data structure is associated with a block, and tracks the set of inodes using the block, pointing from the disk blocks to inodes.

A streaming media data play list comprises a plurality of streaming media data entries associated with a single data pointer and the streaming media data entries comprise header data and payload data. In particular embodiments, a method for storing a streaming media data play list in a cache memory comprises receiving the streaming media data play list from a streaming media server, and storing the media data in the cache memory.

The system includes a streaming media protocol engine to receive a request for a data stream in a first format from a client system; a streaming media mass storage subsystem to locate the data stream stored by a cache server in a second format; and a network protocol engine to serve the located data stream to the client system in the first format.
