A glass manufacturing apparatus includes a forming apparatus defining a travel path extending in a travel direction. The forming apparatus conveys a ribbon of glass-forming material along the travel path in the travel direction of the forming apparatus. The glass manufacturing apparatus includes a cooling tube extending substantially parallel to the travel path and extending across the travel direction. The cooling tube includes a plurality of orifices spaced apart along the cooling tube and facing the travel path. Methods of manufacturing glass can comprise flowing a coolant from an outlet of a conduit in a direction toward a target location of a flowing ribbon of molten material. Methods can also include changing a phase of the coolant while the coolant is flowing towards the target location. The change in phase can cool the target location.

Methods and apparatus for producing a glass ribbon

A system and process for forming a curved glass laminate article is provided. The process and system utilizes co-sagging of a stack of glass sheets of different thicknesses and different glass materials. During co-sagging the thicker glass layer is placed on top of the thinner glass layer. In this process, shape mismatch is avoided by selecting/controlling the glass materials of the sheets of glass such that the viscosity of the lower, thinner sheet during co-sagging is greater than the viscosity of the thicker glass sheet.

The method includes actuating at least one heat shield to a first position at least partially covering an edge portion of a first major surface of the glass substrate. A process and system for forming a curved glass article from a sheet of glass material is provided. The process and system includes supporting a glass sheet on a shaping frame and then heating the sheet of glass material while supported by the shaping frame such that the central region of the sheet of glass material deforms into an open central cavity of the bending frame. A laminate structure having a first glass layer, a second glass layer, and at least one polymer interlayer intermediate the first and second glass layers. Methods and apparatus provide for a conformable polishing head for uniformly polishing a workpiece. The polishing head includes an elastic polishing pad mounted on an elastic membrane that seals a cavity in the polishing head. The cavity is pressurized to expand the membrane and press the polishing pad down on the top surface of the workpiece, such that the polishing pad conforms to the surface and applies a substantially uniform pressure distribution across the workpiece and thereby uniformly removes material across high and low spots on the workpiece.

Workpieces are conveyed through multiple polishing stations that include a bulk material removal belt polishing station and finishing rotary polishing station.
