A method for displaying a multipoint videoconference includes receiving a plurality of video signals generated at a plurality of remote conference sites. The method includes assigning a plurality of video signals generated at a first remote conference site to a first monitor of a plurality of monitors at a local site and assigning a plurality of video signals generated at a second remote conference site to a second monitor of the plurality of monitors at the local site. In addition, the method includes selecting, for each of the first and second monitor, a video signal of the plurality of video signals assigned to the monitor, and displaying each selected video signal on its respective monitor.

System and method for displaying a multipoint videoconference

A host receives messages from a network processing device. Messages received from a primary port are processed and also forwarded to a standby host over a secondary port. Messages received by the standby host over the secondary port are processed in the same was as the messages received over the primary port. However, the standby host will not respond to the messages received over the secondary port.

This disclosure provides a method and apparatus for normalizing service level agreements across entire networks. By utilizing a new parameter called the virtual call count, a wholesale network provider can monitor a variety of related network status indications and provide to their customers increased insight into the nature of the service level rejections that they experience. Existing service level agreement processors can be equipped with the additional functionality of calculating the virtual call count to form an apparatus for normalizing service level agreements.

Method and apparatus for normalizing service level agreements in a network

A network device to maintain resource management within a network may comprise an emulator or watchdog that may send an emulation request to a resource manager for emulating a request of a client. Operability of the resource manager may be identified based on a reply of the resource manager to the emulation request. If the resource manager does not provide a response within a given time frame, then the watchdog may identify a failure condition for the resource manager. The watchdog may then initiate corrective actions for replacing the resource manager with a backup server responsive to identifying the fail condition.

Network device and method of operation

A monitoring system includes a monitoring component that compares a number of application-specific request packets sent with a number of response packets received pursuant to the sent request packets during a designated monitoring period to detect failure in a monitored component without using any pinging packets. The application-specific request and response packets contain data to perform tasks specific to an application that is not associated with operational status monitoring information and the request and response packets are not specifically ping packets. A method for monitoring includes counting a number of application-specific request packets sent with a number of response packets received during a monitoring period without any pinging. If one or more request packets are sent but no response packets are received during a designated monitoring period, the monitored component is identified as failed. If some, but not all, response packets are received, the monitored component is identified as operational. Alternatively, if no response packets are received after a first monitoring period, the monitored component is identified as potentially failed. If no response packets are received after the end of a second monitoring period, the monitored component is identified as failed.
