System and methods are provided that can address dynamically determining capacity allocations for multiple services on the same computing devices in the same point of presences (PoPs). A routing and capacity management system receives logs from the services. The routing and capacity management system processes logs from the services to generate data that reflects resource usage at respective PoPs and/or border links. The routing and capacity management system dynamically determines capacity allocation for the services based on the generated data and instructs the services with the capacity allocation changes.

System and methods are provided that can address co-locating content delivery services in a CDN and streaming egress services on the same computing devices in the same point of presence (PoP). A control plane of the content streaming service sends a request for a PoP for a client. A routing and capacity management system processes logs from the services to monitor resource usage at respective PoPs and/or border links. The routing and capacity management system can respond to the streaming control plane and identify a suitable PoP based on the monitored resource usage of the PoPs and/or border links. Based on the monitored resource usage, the routing and capacity management system instructs the streaming control plane to limit the load associated with one or more clients served by a PoP, which causes disconnected clients to reconnect to the content streaming service thereby re-routing traffic and rebalancing computing resource usage.

Routing and capacity management system for co-located streaming service

Techniques are described for enabling a content delivery network (CDN) service of a cloud provider network to place content distributions across points of presence (PoPs) within a common geographic area in a manner that makes efficient use of the resources provided by the PoPs. A Domain Name System (DNS) service obtains log data reflecting requests to access distributions at various PoPs. The DNS service uses the log data to periodically generate characterization data for the distributions (e.g., in terms of requests per second, bytes transferred per second, and cache width usage). The DNS service uses the generated characterization data to assign particular distributions to particular PoPs of each PoP group such that the distributions are distributed across the PoPs according to the characterization data. The DNS service uses the assignments to generate routing data used by the DNS service to resolve DNS queries for particular distributions to particular PoPs of PoP groups.
