The invention provides a method and apparatus for providing signaling in a communication link to a sending node and a receiving node using the hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) protocol. The invention is characterized by the fact that the signalling contains a predetermined bit pattern that indicates whether control information in the current transmission can be used alone for decoding, or whether some part of the control information from an earlier transmission must also be used. The basic idea is to inform only with one bit ('TFCI flag'), whether the TFCI bits can be used for decoding the transport channel, using HARQ. If this bit is logical '1', then it means that current TFCI can be used for decoding, i.e. that the number of information bits for this transport format equals the number that is defined also originally when TFCI has been defined. Alternatively, if this one bit is logical '0', then it means that the receiving side has to assume the same number of information bits for this transport format as in the original transmission. Thus the number of information bits cannot be taken from the TFCI, when doing the decoding. Thus, typically, in the original transmission, the bit is logical &#x201c;1&#x201d;, in the retransmissions the bit is either logical &#x201c;0&#x201d; or &#x201c;1&#x201d;.

Method and apparatus for transport format signaling with HARQ

A method of mapping internet protocol (IP) based data and signalling data for a forming a single connection between a mobile handsets in a code division multiple access (CDMA) system. Two or more sets of physical channels are used, in which each of the physical channels in each set has the same spreading factor as other physical channels in that set. The IP-based data including header data and application data, each of the header data, signalling data and application data are assigned to at least one transport channel ('TrCH'). At least a first one of the transport channels is mapped to a first one of the sets of physical channels. Simultaneously, at least a second one of the transport channels is mapped to a second one of the sets of physical channels.

Method for preparing an interfrequency handover, a network element and a mobile station

A system and method for random access channel (RACH) capture, where user equipment (UE) transmits a series of time-spaced access preambles each having an increasing power level to Node B and terminates access preamble transmission in response to an acquisition indicator (AI) signal returned from Node B and transmits its RACH message part. A collision detection preamble (CDP) is sent immediately after the message or embedded with the message. A collision detection indicator (CDI) signal matching the CDP is transmitted from Node B to the UE identified as having the failed RACH message requesting retransmission of the message. Optionally, the relative retransmission power level is also specified to the UE along with the CDI signal.

System and method for random access channel capture with automatic retransmission request

The invention relates to a receiver and a reception method in a data transmission system wherein a signal to be transmitted can comprise information that is transmitted in a frame form by using several different transport formats, in which frames also information on the transport format used is transmitted by means of transport format indicators, and in which system the information to be transmitted is coded by a coding depth depending on the properties of the information to be transmitted, at least some of the coding depths being multiples of a given basic coding depth Tk. In order to express the transmission mode reliably when the signal is received which is known to contain information coded by using a coding depth of n*Tk, if it is detected that n&minus;x frames have been received, where a positive integer x is lower than n, in which frames transport format indicators have been identified indicating that the frame comprises the information coded using the known coding depth n*Tk, and x frames wherein the transport format indicators do not indicate that the signal comprises the information coded using the known coding depth n*Tk, it is inferred that the x frames in question have been received erroneous.

Reception method and receiver using several different transport formats

The invention relates to a method for selecting a way to perform a handover in a cellular radio system, and a cellular radio system employing code division multiple access. The system comprises in each cell at least one base station transmitting a pilot signal, and subscriber terminal equipments that may be connected to one or more base stations simultaneously, said terminal equipments comprising means for measuring pilot signals received by them, and comprising means for performing handovers of at least two types. For saving the capacity and the resources of the system, the terminal equipment of the system in accordance with the invention comprises means for selecting, on the basis of the pilot signals it has received, the handover technique which is used on the connection between the terminal equipment and the base station each time.
