A method for treating a lipid material containing phosphorous and/or metal compounds is described. The method includes providing the lipid material, preheating the lipid material, to obtain a preheated lipid material, heat treating the preheated lipid material in a heat treatment step, to obtain a heat treated lipid material, and optionally post treating the heat treated lipid material in a post treatment step.

Method for treating lipid materials

A method is disclosed of purifying a recycled or renewable organic material, wherein the recycled or renewable organic material contains one or more impurities selected from a group consisting of silicon compounds, phosphorous, Cl and sterols. Exemplary embodiments include (a) providing the recycled or renewable organic material; (c) heat treating the recycled or renewable organic material at 100 to 450° C.; and (f) hydrotreating the heat treated recycled or renewable organic material in a presence of a hydrotreating catalyst; to obtain purified hydrotreated recycled or renewable organic material.

Purification of recycled and renewable organic material

A method is disclosed of purifying a recycled or renewable organic material, wherein the recycled or renewable organic material includes more than 1 ppm silicon as silicon compounds. Exemplary steps include (a) providing the recycled or renewable organic material; (b) heat treating the recycled or renewable organic material to form a heat treated recycled or renewable organic material, wherein the at least part of silicon compounds present in the recycled or renewable organic material are converted to volatile silicon compounds, and (c) evaporating volatile silicon compounds from the heat treated recycled or renewable organic material to obtain recycled or renewable organic material fraction containing less silicon than the recycled or renewable organic material provided in step (a).

A method is disclosed of purifying a recycled or renewable organic material, wherein the recycled or renewable organic material includes more than 1 ppm silicon as silicon compounds and/or more than 10 ppm phosphorous as phosphorous compounds. The method can include providing a feed of the lipid material; heat treating the organic material in presence of an adsorbent and the filtering organic material and hydrotreating the lipid material in a presence of a hydrotreating catalyst to obtain purified hydrotreated organic material having less than 20% organic material and/or less than 30% of the original phosphorous content of the organic material.

A method is disclosed of purifying a recycled or renewable organic material, wherein the recycled or renewable organic material contains more than 20 ppm Cl. Exemplary methods include (a) providing the recycled or renewable organic material; (b) purifying the organic recycled or renewable organic material to obtain a purified recycled or renewable organic material, and (c) hydrotreating the purified recycled or renewable organic material in a presence of a hydrotreating catalyst at a temperature from 270 to 380&#xb0; C. under pressure from 4 to 20 MPa and under continuous hydrogen flow; to obtain purified hydrotreated recycled or renewable organic material.

A process is provided for improved levulinic acid production form biomass, wherein furfural is recovered from vapor flow from the levulinic acid production reactor. The reaction conditions can be chosen to enable good yield for both products and minimization of undesired side products.
