Method, device, system and software product for providing system information to enable packet switched handover

A method, mobile device, network device, system, and software product are presented for providing an indication whether a source radio network controller requests to receive system information from a handover target, and for receiving the system information in a target to source transparent container, if the indication requests to receive the system information.

A method for operating a receiver and a device are provided. The device comprises a first and a second antenna, a receiver operationally coupled to the first antenna and a transceiver operationally coupled to the second antenna. The receiver receives information in bursts on a first band of radio frequencies. A controller of the device measures signal strength of the information received with the receiver, compares the measured signal strength to a reference value and enables operation of the transceiver if the measured signal strength is above the reference value, and limits operation of the transceiver during reception of the bursts if the measured signal strength is below the reference value.

Operating multi-service receiver in non-interfering manner

A user equipment UE reports its mobility state in signaling for establishing, re-establishing, or re-configuring a radio connection between the UE and a network access node. In one embodiment the reported mobility state is selected from among normal; medium and high. Indication of user equipment mobility state to enhance mobility and call performance

A method and equipment by which a mobile station receiving a point-to-multicast (p-t-m) transmission from a radio access network (RAN) of a wireless communication system communicates information to the RAN of use in the mobile changing to a neighboring cell for receiving the p-t-m transmission; in particular, the mobile station indicates to the RAN whether cell reselection parameters for the neighboring cell have been received, and/or whether neighboring cell information indicating parameters for receiving the p-t-m transmission in the neighboring cell have also been received by the mobile. In a typical embodiment, the mobile would indicate not only whether parameters for receiving the p-t-m transmission in the neighboring cell have been received, but which set of parameters have been received. The information of use in the mobile changing to the neighboring cell is communicated to the RAN in an acknowledgment message uplinked on a packet access control channel.

MBMS feedback and neighboring cell measurement reporting

In accordance with an example embodiment of the present invention, an apparatus places an indication of a wireless communication system cell measurement in a measurement report message, where the indication comprises a corresponding frequency index, and a first part and a second part of an m-bit value representing a physical layer cell identification in a first and a second field, respectively, and a k-bit value representing a measurement result in the second field corresponding to the index. The apparatus then sends the measurement report message to a network interface.

A method provides for operating a wireless communication system having packet data capabilities, and includes steps of: (a) sending a message from a mobile station to a network on a same physical channel that is used to transmit packet data, the message specifying individual ones of packet system information (PSI) messages that are required for reception by the mobile station; and (b) in response to receiving the message, transmitting only the specified individual ones of the PSI messages from the network to the mobile station over the same physical channel used to transmit the packet data.

Providing mobility control information to a communications device

A method and mobile terminal are disclosed for use in a wireless communication system in order for the mobile terminal to be able to transition from a dual mode, in which a packet switched connection and circuit switched connection are used together, to a single mode in which packets are transferred. The mobile terminal is for receiving minimum system information necessary to perform the transition in an uninterrupted manner, instead of an interrupted manner. This system information is broadcast to the mobile terminal on a regular basis, and is also sent to the mobile terminal partly or entirely by point-to-point transfer if a piece of the minimum system information is missing due to inadequate broadcast reception or some other reason. This system information is then employed by the mobile terminal to transition from the dual mode to the single mode in the uninterrupted manner.

Enhancement of dual transfer mode when circuit switched resources are released

A method operates, in at least one network control mode of operation (preferably NC), for determining in a MS if a cell to which the MS is currently assigned has a first type of broadcast control channel (the PBCCH) and, if the cell does have the first type of broadcast control channel, for sending a PACKET MEASUREMENT REPORT message to the network for reporting on neighbour cells identified in a list received from the PBCCH. If the cell does not have the PBCCH, the method instead sends a PACKET MEASUREMENT REPORT message to the network for reporting on neighbour cells identified in a list received from a second type of broadcast control channel (BCCH). The type of list used by the MS is one of implicitly specified by the PACKET MEASUREMENT REPORT message, or is explicitly specified by the PACKET MEASUREMENT REPORT message.

Method and apparatus providing performance improvement for GPRS neighbour cell measurement reporting when packet broadcast control channel is not available

A method and terminal are disclosed for use in a wireless communication system, in order for the terminal to transition from a dual mode, in which a packet switched connection and circuit switched connection are used, to a single mode in which packets are transferred. The mobile terminal is for receiving minimum system information necessary to perform this transition in an uninterrupted manner. This system information is sent to the mobile terminal automatically or on a regular basis, and is additionally sent to the mobile terminal partly upon request of the mobile terminal. A release indication is sent to the terminal separately from the system information, notifying the terminal that the circuit switched connection will be released, at which point a timer is started. The system information is employed by the mobile terminal to transition from the dual mode in the uninterrupted manner, if the timer has not expired.

A mobile terminal and method are disclosed for use in a wireless communication system in order for the mobile terminal to be able to transition to a dual mode, in which a packet switched connection and circuit switched connection are used together, from a single mode in which packets are transferred. A packet associated control channel is used to convey a radio link control or multiple access control (RLC/MAC) message, and meanwhile packet switched resources are maintained. Then a dual transfer mode assignment message is received, as a result of using the packet associated channel to convey the radio link or multiple access control message.

Enhancement of packet transfer mode when circuit switched resources are requested

A mobile device, system, and method are disclosed for use in a wireless communication system during the mobile device's transition from a dual mode, in which a packet switched connection and circuit switched connection are used together, to a single mode in which packets are transferred. When the circuit switched connection is released, packet resources are allocated by converting timeslots used for circuit switched connection traffic into timeslots used for packet data traffic. Also included is a new alert signal within an existing message to the mobile device during the circuit switched connection release phase, before completion of the circuit switched connection release phase, in order to inform the mobile device that the converting step will occur after release of the circuit switched connection.
