According to an aspect, there is provided an elevator car parking brake comprising a brake carrier having a first plate and a second plate, the plates being spaced from each other and positioned to enable a guide rail to travel within the space between the plates, a caliper movably connected to the brake carrier, brake pads, and an actuator configured to move the brake pads against a guide rail in a braking operation. The elevator car parking brake further comprises at least one first compression spring arranged between the first plate of the brake carrier and a brake pad directly associated with the actuator; and at least one second compression spring arranged between the second plate of the brake carrier and the caliper, the first and second compression springs being configured to keep the brake pads substantially centered with respect to the brake carrier.

The system comprises a synchronization shaft rotatably supported on an elevator car frame, the synchronization shaft being operatively connected to at least one safety gear, a lever attached to the synchronization shaft, an electromagnet operatively connected to the lever, spring means operatively connected to the synchronization shaft, and resetting means operatively connected to the synchronization shaft. Deactivation of the electromagnet releases the lever allowing the spring means to rotate the synchronization shaft from a first position to a second position in which the safety gear is activated. Activation of the resetting means rotates the synchronization shaft from the second position to the first position in which the safety gear is deactivated and the spring means is brought back to the excited state at the same time.

The arrangement comprises at least one travelling cable, a guide rail extending from a pit floor at least to a middle of an elevator shaft, an intermediate fixing point positioned in connection with the guide rail, the at least one travelling cable being fixedly attached in said intermediate fixing point, a travelling cable keeper being movably supported on the guide rail so that the travelling cable keeper is movable upwards and downwards along the guide rail, the at least one travelling cable being movably supported in support points on the travelling cable keeper, a path of the at least one travelling cable through the support points in the travelling cable keeper being curved, the at least one travelling cable being movable through the support points.
