A light emitter, comprising light emitting devices mechanically interconnected by a common substrate and an interconnection submount. The light emitting devices are electrically interconnected by the submount to provide an array of serially connected subsets of light emitting devices, each subset comprising at least three light emitting devices electrically connected in parallel. Illumination devices using externally interconnected arrays of light emitting devices, and methods of fabricating same

Lighting devices and methods utilize multiple independently controllable groups of solid state light emitters of different dominant wavelengths, with operation of the emitter groups being automatically adjusted by processor(s) to provide desired illumination. Operation of the emitter groups may be further affected by sensors and/or user input commands (e.g., sound patterns, gesture patterns, or signal transmission). Operation may be adjusted to compensate for presence, absence, intensity, and/or color point of ambient or incident light. Presence of five or more groups of solid state light emitters provide desirable luminous flux, color point, correlated color temperature (CCT), color rendering index (CRI), CRI R9, and luminous efficacy characteristics of aggregate emissions over a wide range of CCT values, and may permit adjustment of vividness (e.g., relative gamut) and/or melatonin suppression characteristics for a selected color point or CCT.

Lighting devices that comprise one or more solid state light emitters

Light emitting diodes are disclosed that utilize multiple conversion materials in the conversion process in order to achieve the desired emission color point. Different embodiments of the present invention can comprise different phosphor types in separate layers on, above or around one or a plurality of LED chips to achieve the desired light conversion. The LEDs can then emit a desired combination of light from the LED chips and conversion material. In some embodiments, conversion materials can be applied as layers of different phosphor types in order of longest emission wavelength phosphor first, followed by shorter emission phosphors in sequence as opposed to applying in a homogeneously mixed phosphor converter. The conversion material layers can be applied as a blanket over the LED chips and the area surrounding the chip, such as the surface of a submount holding the LED chips.

A lighting apparatus includes a string of light emitting diode (LED) sets coupled in series where each set includes at least one LED. A current diversion circuit is coupled to the string and is configured to operate responsive to a bias state transition of one of the LED sets to direct current away from another one of the LED sets. A current limiting circuit is coupled in series with the string and is configured to conduct current responsive to a forward biasing of all of the LED sets. The current limiting circuit includes only passive electrical component(s).

In one embodiment, a lamp comprises an optically transmissive enclosure. An LED array is disposed in the optically transmissive enclosure operable to emit light when energized through an electrical connection. A gas is contained in the enclosure to provide thermal coupling to the LED array. The gas may include oxygen.

Solid state light engines are disclosed that emit a bright, non-symmetrical emission pattern, with a relatively high luminous flux and from a relatively small area. The light engines can be used in many different types and sizes of light sources, with some embodiments providing a light quantity, quality and distribution similar to conventional J-type Halogen light sources. The light engines are arranged with integral power supplies and heat management features that allow for the engines to provide high emission intensities while generating significantly less heat at the light source. This can result in significantly higher efficiency and greater life space. In some embodiments, the light can perform similarly to a halogen J-type Lamp 80 mm light tube, while generating similar or greater amounts of light. The light engines according to the present invention provide the capability to be used in low profile light fixtures.

LED mini-linear light engine

A solid state lighting device includes at least one electrically activated solid state light emitter configured to stimulate emissions of first through third lumiphoric materials having peak wavelengths in ranges of from 485 nm to 530 nm, from 575 nm to 595 nm, and from 605 nm to 640 nm, respectively (or subranges thereof defined herein), with the third peak having a full width half maximum value of less than 60 nm. The resulting device generates aggregated emissions having a suitably high color rendering index (e.g., CRI Ra) value (e.g., at least 70), and also having a spectral power distribution with a Melanopic/Photopic ratio within a specified target range as a function of correlated color temperature, thereby providing increased perceived brightness.
