A sealing system for an internal-combustion engine is provided in which a lubricating-oil-carrying space particularly an oil catching space, is separated by wall elements from adjoining space sections, which wall elements have elastic sealing elements for sealing off the spaces. For the compensation of sealing gap tolerances, a sealing element is provided which has at least two sealing arms which come to rest on the space wall to be sealed off. Despite larger sealing gap tolerances, a secure oil-tight separation of spaces is thereby provided.

Sealing system for an internal-combustion engine

Within the cooling circuit of an internal combustion engine, coolant ducts are connected in the cylinder head and the coolant jacket of the cylinder block with the coolant pump by coolant passages inside the cylinder block. Starting at the flange surface between the cylinder block and the cylinder head, ducts extend in the cylinder block that are connected with the main ducts of the cooling circuit and serve to supply or drain the cylinder head. These ducts are connected by cast slots that take their departure from the flange surface with the coolant jacket of the cylinder block. These cast slots permit a connection of the coolant jacket with the cooling circuit that is easy to produce without additional bores being necessary. In addition, using casting to produce the connection increases the reliability of the process.

Cooling circuit of an internal combustion engine and method of making

A cylinder block of an internal-combustion engine of an open-deck construction, in which the cooling water jacket and the oil jacket between the cylinder tube and the cylinder block housing are separated from one another by a connection web which connects the respective cylinder tubes with the cylinder block housing. In order to reduce the cylinder tube distortions in the braced condition of the cylinder block, ribs are provided at least in the water jacket or in the oil jacket. The ribs start out from the connection web and improve the linking of the cylinder tubes to the cylinder block housing. The height of these ribs is much lower than the height of the water jacket or of the oil jacket which results in a low weight increase and minimizes the linking lengths to the cylinder tube.
