The magnesium hydroxide or hydrated oxide, aluminum hydroxide or hydrated oxide, or magnesium hydroxide or hydrated oxide and aluminum hydroxide or hydrated oxide includes amounts between 10 and 150 parts-by-weight, inclusive. The zeolite includes amounts between 1 and 5 part-by-weight, inclusive. A self-extinguishing cable, including at least one conductor and at least one coating layer is also disclosed. An optical fiber cable having improved compatibility with a waterblocking filling composition is provided. In particular, the optical fiber cable has a cable component, wherein an optical fiber can be housed, such as a buffer tube or a slotted core, made of a polyolefinic material having high compatibility with a waterblocking filler disposed therein. The cable component is manufactured by employing a suitable polyolefinic material, polyethylene in particular, having a density in the finished component of at least 0.940 g/ml, preferably of about 0.942 g/ml or higher, up to about, e.g., 0.975. The material preferably has a melt flow index (MFI) at 190 &deg; C. and 2.16 kg lower than about 3 and a shear sensitivity of the same, a shear sensitivity higher than about 40.

Optical fiber cable with components having improved compatibility with waterblocking filling compositions

A flame-retardant composition includes a crystalline propylene homopolymer or copolymer, a copolymer of ethylene with at least one alpha-olefin having from 3 to 12 carbon atoms, and optionally with a diene, the copolymer of ethylene being characterized by a composition distribution index greater than 45%, the index being defined as a weight percentage of copolymer molecules having an alpha-olefin content within 50% of an average total molar content of alpha-olefin, and natural magnesium hydroxide in amounts such as to impart flame-retardant properties. A related method for manufacturing a cable having improved mechanical properties and enhanced fire resistance includes the steps of preparing a polymer mixture with flame-retardant properties and extruding the mixture on a conductor optionally pre-coated with an insulating layer, in order to obtain a flame-retardant coating.

A cable, in particular for power transmission, for telecommunications or for data transmission, or also combined power/telecommunications cables, wherein at least one coating layer consists of a recyclable material which is halogen-free and has superior mechanical, electrical, and flame-retardant properties. This material consists of a polymer mixture comprising: (a) a crystalline propylene homopolymer or copolymer; and (b) a copolymer of ethylene with at least one alpha-olefin having from 4 to 12 carbon atoms, and optionally with a diene; the said copolymer (b) being characterized by a density of between 0.90 and 0.86 g/cm and by a Composition Distribution Index, defined as the weight percentage of copolymer molecules having an alpha-olefin content within 50% of the average total molar content of alpha-olefin, of greater than 45%. This material may also include a flame-retardant inorganic filler.

Cables with a halogen-free recyclable coating comprising polypropylene and an ethylene copolymer having high structural uniformity

A cable, in particular for power transmission, for telecommunications or for data transmission, or also combined power/telecommunications cables, wherein at least one coating layer is comprised of a recyclable material which is halogen-free and has superior mechanical and electrical properties. This material comprises a polymer mixture of a crystalline propylene homopolymer or copolymer and an elastomeric copolymer of ethylene with at least one alpha-olefin having from 3 to 12 carbon atoms, and optionally containing a diene. The copolymer is characterized by a 200% tension set value of lower than 30% (measured at 20&deg; C. for 1 minute according to ASTM standard D 412). The cable also includes a flame-retardant polymer composition.
