The present invention relates to a tread for tyres. Specifically, it refers to a tread that features a 3-level tread geometry that is optimised in such a way as to ensure long-term high performance on wet and/or snow-covered surfaces, whilst maintaining the handling characteristics and braking capacity on dry and/or smooth surfaces under new tyre conditions.

A winter tyre with improved traction on snow surfaces; the tyre has a tread with a raised pattern defined by a number of longitudinal and transverse grooves which form at least one longitudinal row of blocks projecting radially from a base surface of the tread. Each block has two longitudinal lateral surfaces bounding two corresponding longitudinal grooves, and two transverse lateral surfaces bounding two corresponding transverse grooves. At least one of the blocks has lateral channels, each of which is formed on the lateral surface of a corresponding block, extends from the base surface of the tread to a top surface of the block, and is designed to impede radial spin-out of snow trapped inside the lateral channel.

A winter tire with improved traction on snow surfaces; the tire has a tread with a raised pattern defined by a number of longitudinal and transverse grooves which form at least one longitudinal row of blocks projecting radially from a base surface of the tread. A tire, wherein the tread has a number of raised blocks divided into a number of elements by sipes crosswise to a motion direction of the tire. Each element has at least a first lateral surface separated by a sipe from a second lateral surface of an adjacent element and having at least one first portion sloping with respect to the motion direction and facing a second portion of the second surface. Parting of the first and second portion in the motion direction is controlled by an elastic locking device for locking the two portions to each other.
