An apparatus and method for moulding opening devices onto a packaging material sheet at respective holes provided in the sheet includes first and second mould tools arrangeable in a closed position so as to be in contact with opposite sides of the sheet and in an open position so as to be positioned distally from the sheet. In the closed positions a mould cavity is formed between the first and second mould tools for accommodating a hole edge in the sheet. One of the mould tools includes a pair of half mould tools which are simultaneously moved from the open position to the closed position and vice versa such that the direction of movement of each of said half mould tools between the open and closed positions have a directional component extending substantially parallel to the extension plane and a directional component extending substantially perpendicularly to the extension plane, for reducing wear of the mould tools.

Apparatus and method for moulding an opening device on a packaging sheet

An opening device ( ) attached at a hole ( ) in a top wall portion ( ) of a packaging container ( ) and positioned adjacent a fold line ( ) of the packaging container, including a base portion ( ) connected to the top wall at the hole, and a lid portion ( ) releasably connected to the base portion, in which the base portion has a portion ( ) protruding from a main circumferential portion ( ) towards the fold line ( ), for providing increased stability of the container during storage and transport. A tamper evidence protrusion ( ), also functioning as a pull tab for opening the lid portion, extends from the lid portion to be connected to an outer side ( ) of the top wall portion. A reduced thickness tearing edge ( ) is provided between the base portion and the lid portion for facilitating opening, and a bistable hinge ( ) releasably biases the lid portion to stably remain in an open position, for avoiding interference of the lid portion during product dispensing. The base portion has an upper ring portion ( ) and the lid portion has a lower ring portion ( ) which after the release of the lid portion from the base portion may be mutually intermated in a releasably locked manner, so as to reseal the opening device.

Opening device on a packaging sheet material

An apparatus and method for molding opening devices onto a packaging material sheet at respective holes provided in the sheet. The apparatus includes first and second mold tools arrangeable in a closed position so as to be in contact with opposite sides of the sheet and in an open position so as to be positioned distally from the sheet. In the closed positions a mold cavity is formed between the first and second mold tools for accommodating a hole edge in the sheet. The apparatus further includes an injection passage for injecting heated thermoplastics material into the mold cavity, which injection passage extends in one of the mold tools such that the thermoplastics material is injected directly into the mold cavity at an injection point of the mold cavity which is located distally from the hole edge, for providing effective formation of the opening device on the sheet. One of the mold tools includes a pair of half mold tools which are simultaneously moved from the open position to the closed position and vice versa such that the direction of movement of each of said half mold tools between the open and closed positions tangentially follows a circular path, for reducing wear of the mold tools. In the closed position of the mold tools, the sheet extends in a plane which is distally spaced from the plane of extension of the sheet in the open position aiding in release of the sheet and the molded opening device from the mold tools.

Apparatus and method for molding an opening device on a packaging sheet

A container and closure package includes container material stock formed of a severable material defining an opening therein defining a removable confetti portion and a dispensing member molded to the material stock. The dispensing member is superimposed over the opening to substantially overlie the confetti portion. The confetti portion can be ejected from the material stock when the dispensing member is molded to the container stock and can be integrated into the closure package to form a portion thereof. The dispensing member can be a spout and can include a cover or cap integral therewith. The cap is formed with the confetti portion forming a portion of the top wall thereof. Alternately, the closure package includes a spout, such as a threaded spout which is formed extending from the container stock. The confetti portion is formed integral with the spout to establish a seal therefor. The seal can be gas-impermeable.
