A system for detecting a Zero Crossing point is provided. The system includes: a coupling unit connected between a high voltage side and a low voltage side of the system; and a zero crossing detector connected to the high voltage side and configured to divide a filtered mains voltage signal and to generate an output signal that indicates a zero crossing point of the filtered mains voltage signal.

Zero crossing detector (ZCD) circuit

A signal repeater includes a port, an amplifier, and an adaptive device. The port is configured to connect to an electrical line of an electrical grid between devices. Communication over the electrical line and between the devices includes transmission of a first signal. The port is configured to receive the first signal from the electrical line. An amplifier is configured to receive a second signal based on the first signal, and amplify the second signal. The port is configured to receive the amplified second signal, and provide the amplified second signal to the electrical line. An adaptive device is configured to, based on the first signal, adjust an output impedance of the signal repeater to match a first impedance of a load on the signal repeater. The first impedance is seen by the signal repeater at the port, and wherein the first impedance includes an impedance of the electrical line.

The invention relates to a single-port signal repeater. The repeater is connected in parallel to the communication means (), on which only one access point () is needed. The repeater () comprises an amplifier, a hybrid circuit and a feedback and increases the range and transmission capacity for communications made on a conducted medium without the drawbacks of traditional repeaters, which have to interrupt the line and need two access points to the channel.

Single-port signal repeater

The invention relates to an overvoltage protection circuit comprising an MOV (Metal Oxide Varistor) voltage limiting device () which is disposed in series with a GDT (Gas Discharge Tube) voltage limiting device (). The invention is characterized in that a resistor () is disposed in parallel with the aforementioned GDT device (), the value of said resistor being such that the voltage supported by the GDT device () is less than the holdover voltage thereof. In another embodiment of the invention, a second resistor () is disposed in parallel with the MOV device () and, together with the above-mentioned resistor (), forms a resistive divider such that the voltage applied the GDT device () under steady-state conditions is less than the holdover voltage of the GDT. The invention is suitable for communication systems and, preferably, for applications involving communication via electrical network, since the protection effectiveness is improved owing to the fact that the holdover voltage of the GDT device () must be less than that normally required.
