A method of forming a colorimetric sensor includes depositing a first material onto a substrate, providing porous sensing particles, wherein the sensing particles comprise sensing species dispersed into a porous host structure, and embedding the porous sensing particles onto a surface of the deposited first material, the first material attaching the sensing particles to the substrate with at least a portion of the sensing particles is exposed to an ambient environment.

A method of mounting print head transducers to a diaphragm includes providing a print head transducer slab with a diaphragm, heating the transducer slab and the diaphragm to a cure temperature, pressing the diaphragm to the slab to form an assembly at the cure temperature, and dicing the slab to separate the slab into an array of print head transducers after pressing the diaphragm to the slab, wherein the array of print head transducers align with an array of body cavities, thereby mounting the array of print head transducers to the diaphragm.

A method and structure for depriming an ink jet printhead. To deprime ink from a printhead at a location between a nozzle (aperture) and a particulate filter (rock screen), a force (pressure) is applied to the ink. The pressure can either be a positive pressure applied to the nozzle from the outside of the aperture plate or a negative pressure (vacuum) applied at a location upstream from the particulate filter. Because openings within the particulate filter are each smaller than the nozzle, there exists a force which is sufficient to move a meniscus of the ink from the nozzle back to the particulate filter, but which is insufficient to move the meniscus beyond the particulate filter, for example due to a surface tension of the meniscus of the ink.

In accordance with aspects of the present disclosure, a printhead assembly arranged to dispense ultraviolet curable ink or gel ink and method thereof is disclosed. The printhead assembly includes a plurality of functional plates stacked together; a first adhesive layer arranged between adjacent functional plates to provide bonding between the plates; and a second adhesive layer arranged between adjacent function plates to provide chemical resistance to the ultraviolet curable ink or the gel ink.

An aperture plate for a print head of a printer can include a first layer having a first emissivity which is covered by a second layer having a second emissivity which is less than the first emissivity. In an embodiment, the second layer can be etched at nozzle locations to form openings in the second layer which have widths/areas greater than widths/areas of nozzles formed in the first layer. In another embodiment, the second layer can have a smaller thickness at the nozzle locations and a larger thickness away from the nozzle locations. Forming the openings in the second layer which are larger than the nozzles, or forming the second layer thinner at the nozzle locations prior to forming the nozzles, can provide a well-formed nozzle and an aperture plate having a low emissivity.

Method and apparatus for mounting an inkjet printhead

A device and method for the alignment, in up to six degrees of freedom, of printheads in a printer is disclosed. The device has a support, wherein the printhead is secured to a substantially center location of the support. The device further has a fixed plate biased against the support by plurality of first screws extending substantially in a Z direction, a plurality of a second screws extending substantially in a Y direction, and a third screw extending substantially in an X direction. The fixed plate, and thus the printhead, may be translated in each of the X, Y and Z directions and may be rotated about each of the X, Y, and Z axes by manipulation of the screws to achieve possible alignment in all six degrees of freedom.

A printhead interposing maintenance method and apparatus are provided for maintaining a printhead assembly within a relatively tight space in an image producing machine. The printhead interposing maintenance apparatus for the method includes (a) at least a first home position adjacent a first side of four sides of an operating zone between a printhead assembly and an imaging surface in the image producing machine; (b) a first moving device for moving the printhead assembly from a printing first position adjacent the imaging surface to a maintaining second position spaced further away from the printing first position; (c) a maintenance apparatus movably supported for movement along an maintenance path interposed between the imaging surface and the printhead assembly; (d) a second moving device for moving the maintenance apparatus for contacting and maintaining the printhead assembly, and along the maintenance path from the at least first home position to a resting position adjacent a second side and opposite the first side of the four sides of the operating zone; and (e) a third moving device for moving the printhead assembly back from the maintaining second position to the printing first position.

An apparatus and method of making very small curvature modifications of the reflective surface of a mirror in a printer raster scanning system for bow correction of the scanning beam by gripping edges of the mirror to bend it with a gripping system and applying a very small movement thereto by gross rotation of screw shaft of a differential screw system operatively connected to that gripping system. The screw shaft has two separate fine screw thread patterns of slightly different screw pitches causing gross rotation of the screw shaft to only move the mirror gripping system and its engaged portion of the mirror by micro-meter amounts by automatically subtracting the two slightly different screw pitches from one another, thus providing very small, easily controlled, deformation of the mirror plane for bow correction by non-critical gross rotation of the screw shaft.
