An approach is provided for a localized link-centric metric for directional traffic propagation. The approach, for instance, involves designating a base link of the road network. The approach also involves determining a plurality of vehicle trajectories that pass through the base link. The plurality of vehicle trajectories is based on probe data collected from one or more sensors of a plurality of vehicles travelling in the road network. The approach further involves determining a frequency at which the plurality of vehicle trajectories passes through the base link to each of one or more other links in the plurality of vehicle trajectories within a proximity threshold. The approach further involves computing a link-centric metric for said each of the one or more other links relative to the base link based on the determined frequency.

Method and apparatus for providing a localized link-centric metric for directional traffic propagation

An approach is provided for regularizing building footprints. The approach, for example, involves designating a vertex of an initial building footprint as an initial vertex of a regularized footprint. The approach also involves generating an edge from the initial vertex to a next vertex of the initial footprint to add to the regularized footprint when that the edge can connect along a taxicab distance. The taxicab distance, for instance, is based on a rectilinear geometry between two points. The approach further involves adding a new vertex to the regularized footprint when the edge cannot connect along the taxicab distance. The edge then connects the initial vertex to the new vertex, and another edge connects the new vertex to the next vertex along the taxicab distance. The approach further involves generating a subsequent new edge or vertex of the regularized footprint for each subsequent next vertex of the initial footprint.

Method and apparatus for regularizing building footprints using taxicab distance

An approach involves receiving pixel-level labeling data for an image depicting at least a portion of a building facade. The pixel-level labeling data labels each of a plurality of pixels of the image as either window pixels or non-window pixels. The approach further involves generating a window pattern based on window size data, window spacing data, or a combination thereof extracted from the pixel-level labeling data. The approach further involves computing a confidence score for the window pattern based on at least one observed value of at least one characteristic of the window pattern or a deviation of the observed value from at least one expected value, and generating an abstract texture based on the window pattern, the confidence score, and/or other probabilistic metrics.

An approach is provided for identifying objects present in mesh representation of a geo-location, generating accurate 3D models for the objects, and aligning the 3D models to their corresponding objects in an application. The approach comprises processing and/or facilitating a processing of textured three-dimensional mesh data in one or more regions of interest to cause, at least in part, a generation of at least one two-dimensional depth image representation. The approach further comprises causing, at least in part, a filtering of the textured three-dimensional mesh data in the one or more regions of interest to remove mesh data below at least one threshold height based, at least in part, on the at least one two-dimensional depth image representation. Additionally, the approach comprises processing and/or facilitating a processing of the filtered textured three-dimensional mesh data to cause, at least in part, a generation of at least one partial three-dimensional model, including one or more upper facades above the at least one threshold height, of one or more objects located within the one or more regions of interest.

Method and apparatus for identifying buildings in textured 3D mesh data and generating 3D building models

An approach is provided for generating a cleaned object model to represent an object in a mapping database. The approach includes receiving point cloud data depicting the object. The approach also includes processing the point cloud data to determine one or more surface points of the point cloud data. The one or more surface points represent one or more surfaces of the object. The approach further includes cutting a model of the object into one or more fragments using the one or more surface points. The one or more fragments include one or more object fragments and one or more non-object fragments. The approach further includes designating the one or more object fragments as the cleaned object model to represent the object in the mapping database.

An approach is provided for processing status information for one or more points of interest to determine the changes for generation of various representations for presenting in a user interface. The approach involves processing and/or facilitating a processing of status information associated with one or more points of interest to determine one or more point-of-interest changes. An approach is provided for classifying objects that are present at a geo-location and providing an uncluttered presentation of images of some of the objects in an application such as a map application. An approach is provided for detecting points of interest or events based on geotagged data and geolocation seeds. A maps platform processes and/or facilitates a processing of location information associated with one or more devices to determine one or more geolocation seeds. The maps platform causes, at least in part, a querying for content information based, at least in part, on the one or more geolocation seeds. The maps platform then processes and/or facilitates a processing of the content information to determine one or more points of interest, one or more location-based events, or a combination thereof.

Method and apparatus for detecting points of interest or events based on geotagged data and geolocation seeds

An approach is provided to process communication information for determining a possible correction-offset to location information of a user. A location verification platform may process and/or facilitate a processing of communication information associated with at least one user device. The location verification platform may also determine a current geo-location of the at least one user device based, at least in part, on the communication information. Further, the location verification platform may determine an accuracy of the current geo-location based, at least in part, on a comparison of the current geo-location with contextual location information associated with the current geo-location. Furthermore, the location verification platform may determine a correction-offset to the current geo-location based, at least in part, on an accuracy threshold.
