In example implementations, a method, a device, and a program are provided. The method includes detecting a power increase movement of a printer carriage. A location of the printer carriage is detected at a time of the detected power increase. Based on the detected location of the printer carriage, determine whether the print medium is damaged. The device includes a power monitor to detect a power increase during movement of a printer carriage. A locator detects a location of the printer carriage at the time of the detected power increase. A damage determiner determines, based on the detected location of the printer carriage, whether the print medium is damaged. The program detects a power increase during movement of a printer carriage. Location of printer carriage is detected at time of detected power increase. Based on detected location of the printer carriage, it is determined whether the print medium is damaged.

Printing error detection

A system () is provided having a printer () to print printing liquid onto a web () of media (). The system () has a winding roller () on which to roll the web () of media () after printing. A tensioner () to vary the tension in a portion () of the web () of media () is also provided. The portion () is a portion of web which is being rolled onto the winding roller (). Also provided is controller () to control the tensioner () to vary the tension based on the time taken for the printed printing liquid on the web () of media () to dry.

Variable web tensioning

Example implementations relate to a method to manage printhead operational life; the method comprising firing at least one nozzle of a printhead according to an associated firing parameter to produce a respective drop of print liquid, measuring a parameter associated with the drop of print liquid, and adjusting the firing parameter in response to the measuring to reduce the measured parameter associated with the drop of print liquid on a subsequent firing while maintaining the firing parameter at or above a predetermined parameter limit to maintain print image quality.

Printers and controllers

In an example, a printing apparatus includes a controller, wherein the controller may be to compare a historic usage of a first printhead nozzle with a historic usage of a second printhead nozzle which is located on a same printhead as the first nozzle. The controller may be to determine that the historic usage of the first nozzle is higher than the historic usage of the second nozzle, and in response identify a currently operational third printhead nozzle, for which the second nozzle is able to compensate; and turn off the third nozzle, and operate the second nozzle at a higher firing frequency to compensate for the third nozzle.

Examples relate to a method to print a print job. The method comprise comparing an operational parameter of the print job with a reference operational parameter and determining to perform a maintenance task during the print job based on at least a result of comparing the operational parameter with the reference operational parameter. If the maintenance task is to be performed, the method further comprises determining a safety area on a printable medium and performing a maintenance task on a printable medium.

There is disclosed a device, method and program, wherein the method comprises detecting a power increase, during which power usage increases by at least a threshold amount over an expected power usage during movement of a printer carriage over a print medium along a scan axis. The increase method further comprises detecting a location of the printer carriage at a time of the detected power usage increase and determining, based on the detected location of the printer carriage, whether the print medium is damaged.

Aspects of the disclosure provide an electronic device comprising a controller. The controller to determine a volume of print fluid in a first tank of the electronic device, monitor current printing conditions of the electronic device disposing print fluid on a substrate, determine, based on the volume of print fluid and the current printing conditions, whether an adverse printing condition exists, responsive to the volume of print fluid being less than a threshold and the adverse printing condition not existing, control a pump to refill the first tank from a second tank at a flow rate determined at least partially according to the determined volume, and responsive to the volume of print fluid being less than the threshold and the adverse printing condition existing, control the pump to refill the first tank from the second tank at a default flow rate determined independent of the determined volume.

A printer includes a print head to print a pixel by ejecting drops of a printing fluid from the print head, and a controller. The controller monitors a drop volume of the printing fluid ejected by the print head. When the drop volume is below a threshold, the controller controls the print head in accordance with a first print mode to increase the frequency of ejecting drops of the printing fluid within the pixel print time with a decrease in the drop volume that maintains a print quality parameter. The controller changes to a second print mode to increase the pixel print time that maintains the print quality parameter.

A method is disclosed. The method may involve obtaining information indicative of a number of printing passes of a print head to print a swath on a printable medium. The method may comprise determining that the print head is to perform a particular printing pass which is one of: a printing pass during which an amount of print agent to be deposited from nozzles of the print head differs, by an amount that exceeds a defined threshold, from an amount of print agent to be deposited from the nozzles during a printing pass immediately preceding said particular printing pass; and a printing pass to print a swath which is the first of a plurality of adjacent swaths in which each swath has an area coverage exceeding a defined threshold. The method may comprise preparing, based on said obtained information, a schedule for a nozzle spitting procedure to commence before the print head performs the particular printing pass.

A system for detecting a filling level in a printing fluid waste container comprises a waste container that collects excess printing fluid in a reservoir, and an optical sensor unit that detects a filling level of the reservoir on a filling reference surface.

In an example, a method includes ejecting a print agent drop from a printhead, and determining an indication of velocity of the print agent drop. A weight parameter of the print agent drop may be determined from the indication of velocity.

Examples of the present disclosure relate to a calibration method for a printing system. The method comprises printing a diagnostic pattern representative of decap time. The diagnostic pattern comprises the firing of nozzles after an exposure to ambient air during a first predetermined time period to produce a first pattern element and the firing of nozzles after an exposure to ambient air during a second predetermined time period to produce a second pattern element. The method includes scanning the resulting diagnostic pattern with a sensor to collect decap data in a digital form, digitally analyzing the decap data, the digital analysis comprising identifying a quantitative difference between the first and second pattern elements, and modifying a servicing process of the printing system if the quantitative difference passes a predetermined threshold.

It is disclosed a substrate selection method wherein the printer comprises a feeding mechanism including a feeding roller to receive a substrate roll and a media advance roller to receive a substrate from the substrate roll, the method comprising: actuating the feeding roller or the media advance roller; measuring a feeding mechanism parameter on the feeding roller or the media advance roller; calculating a substrate parameter in view of the feeding mechanism parameter; determining from a table a substrate type of in view of the substrate parameter; and selecting a preset on the printer in view of the substrate type.

Substrate selection methods

Circuits for controlling an impeller in a fluid flow distribution system to achieve a target fluid flow are disclosed. The circuit to output a signal representative of a speed value (N) of the impeller derived from a stored power consumption value (W) and speed value (N) pairs to achieve the target fluid flow. The circuit to receive a power signal representative of an input power consumption value (W) of the impeller at the speed value (N) to input fluid to the fluid flow distribution system and to compare the value (W) represented by a power signal for the speed value (N) with the stored value (W) and impeller speed value (N) pairs to determine a least difference impeller speed value (N) of the stored pair comprising a least difference between the value (W) and the value (W). The circuit to output a speed signal representative of value (N).
