An example arc-fault detection apparatus includes an electrical current measuring device connectable to an electrical circuit and configured to provide a measured signal representing an electrical current flowing in the electrical circuit. A computing device is configured to: acquire a first plurality from samples of the measured signal included into a first time interval and a second plurality of sample from the measured signal included into a second time interval, subsequent to the first time interval; perform a discrete derivative of the first plurality of samples obtaining past derivative samples and a discrete derivative of the second plurality of samples obtaining present derivative samples; compute a derivative similarity index by processing the past derivative samples and the present derivative samples according to an auto-correlation type function quantifying the similarity of the past derivative samples with the present derivative samples.

It is described a processing apparatus () for detecting partial discharge pulses in the presence of noise signal, comprising: a first detector () configured to detect an electromagnetic impulsive signal (P; P) from a first area () of an electrical object () and generate a first electrical pulse (P) representing a first detection event of the electromagnetic impulsive signal; a second detector () configured to detect the electromagnetic impulsive signal from a second area () of the electrical object () and generate a second electrical pulse (P) associated with a second detection event of the electromagnetic impulsive signal; a time calculation module () configured to measure a time interval (T; T) between the first detection event and the second detection event; and a processing module () connected to the time calculation module (). Processing apparatus and method for detecting partial discharge pulses in the presence of noise signals

A partial discharge detecting device includes an electric field sensor including: a first electrode configured to detect by capacitive coupling a partial discharge signal generated by an electrical object and to provide a corresponding first electrical signal, and a second electrode isolated from the first electrode and structured to detect an environmental noise and to provide a corresponding second electrical signal. The detecting device further includes a transmission line structured to propagate an output signal obtained from the electric field sensor toward an external analysis apparatus and an electronic module connected to the first and second electrodes and structured to process the first and second electrical signals and to provide the output signal to the transmission line. The electronic module is structured to decouple the electric field sensor from the transmission line and avoid resonance of the electric field sensor with the transmission line.

A partial discharge signals processing method includes: setting a first discrimination criterion among the following criteria: discharge signals acquisition, discharge signals noise filtering, and discharge signals classification; providing a plurality of pulse waveforms associated with detected partial discharge waveform signals; defining at least a first reference pulse waveform in accordance with the first criterion; performing a first training of a neural network module based on the at least a first reference pulse waveform to produce a similarity index adapted to selectively assume a first value and a second value representative of a similarity/non similarity of an input pulse waveform with the at least a first reference pulse waveform, respectively; comparing the plurality of pulse waveforms with the at least a first reference pulse waveform by means of the neural network module to obtain first similarity index values; and memorizing/rejecting each compared pulse waveform on the basis of the obtained first similarity index values and on the second discrimination criterion.

Partial discharge detection apparatus and method

A partial discharge detection device for detecting and measuring partial discharges in electric systems or components, which delivers signals having a form much resembling that of the radiated pulse, for improved identification and analysis. The device is of small size, totally insulated and self-powered, and allows measurements to be performed with the highest safety with no need for direct connection, thereby allowing operators to stand at a distance and avoid any system shutdown while making measurements. Furthermore, it can also detect and deliver the sync signal, which is obtained by picking up the supply voltage of the discharge generating components.
