Systems and methods for facilitating access to files that are stored by network-accessible file storage services. An example system comprises a plurality of file access nodes including a control node, wherein the control node is configured to: receive a file access request initiated by a client, wherein the file access request comprises an identifier of a file, an identifier of a file storage service, and an access token associated with the file stored by the file storage service; request, using the access token, metadata associated with the file from the file storage service; define, using the metadata, a plurality of portions forming the file; and forward, to the plurality of file access nodes, identifiers of the plurality of portions.

Systems and methods for pre-fetching data based on memory usage patterns. An example method comprises: receiving a first memory access request identifying a first memory block; receiving a second memory access request identifying a second memory block; update a memory access tracking data structure by incrementing a sequence counter corresponding to a memory access sequence that references the first memory block and the second memory block; receive a third memory access request identifying a third memory block; identifying, based on the memory access tracking data structure, a sequence counter having a maximal value among sequence counters associated with memory access sequences that reference the third memory block; and pre-fetching a fourth memory block corresponding to the identified sequence counter.

A system and method is provided for managing virtualized computing resources. An exemplary method includes executing a computing service comprised of virtualized computing resources including a first virtual machine and a network address mapping module. The method further includes, responsive to receiving an indication that additional virtualized computing resources are needed to handle one or more requests from a client and directed to the computing service, generating a second virtual machine that can handle requests for the computing service by performing a linked cloning operation of the first virtual machine. The method includes, configuring the network address mapping module to modify requests for the second virtual machine, such that the second virtual machine has the same network address as the first virtual machine.

A document classifier, executed by a processing device, groups a plurality of stored documents using machine learning to create a plurality clusters that each include documents having similar characteristics. The document classifier further determines a document classification for each of the plurality of clusters based on a subset of the documents in each respective cluster. In addition, the document classifier associates a determined document classification with each of the plurality of documents, wherein resulting classifications of documents are used to filter search results in response to queries of end users.

Disclosed are systems and methods for parallel processing an input data set. During a map stage of a computation, starting with a first virtual machine (VM) acting as a parent VM and an input data set, the system clones the parent VM to generate at least one linked clone child VM. The system further divides the input data set into a first chunk for the parent VM and a second chunk for the at least one child VM by determining a starting pointer for each chunk. Each chunk is processed by a VM to generate an intermediate data result, which is stored in a network storage device. The plurality of VMs then perform a reduce stage on the plurality of intermediate data results stored in the network storage device.

A document search engine facilitates input prediction for searching content within stored documents associated with a user by maintaining a data structure comprising entries that are each associated with one of the stored documents, wherein each entry comprises textual content of one of the stored documents, and wherein the textual content comprises a plurality of characters. The textual content of each entry in the data structure is analyzed to identify sequential relationships between the characters in the textual content. An input text comprising a text character is received from a user as part of a search query, and a predicted text to follow the input text is determined, where the predicted text is based on the one or more sequential relationships between the characters in the textual content. The document search engine then provides the search query including the input text and the predicted text to the client device.

A system and method is provided for performing computations on a virtual machine without a special hardware computation unit, such as a discrete graphics processing unit (GPU). The described method uses a computation module to intercept requests from a user application executing in a virtual machine on a first physical computer. The intercepted requests may include requests to configure GPU computation grids, start and finish accelerated code execution, and transfer data to and from the special computation unit. The computation module offloads accelerated code to a second physical computer having a physical special hardware unit (e.g., discrete GPU).

An exemplary method comprises monitoring, by a hardware processor, operations on a virtual storage device, identifying, by a hardware processor, transitions between blocks of the virtual storage device that have the operations performed thereon, determining, by a hardware processor, a relationship between each of the blocks based on the identified transitions, clustering the blocks into groups of related blocks based on the relationship and applying, by a hardware processor, one of a plurality of different caching policies to blocks in each of the groups based on clustering.
