The present invention relates to supramolecular biomedical polymers comprising quadruple hydrogen bonding units and to a process for preparing such a supramolecular biomedical polymer and porous biomedical implants thereof. The supramolecular biomedical polymers are particularly suitable for the production of porous biomedical implants that need high strength, elasticity, durability, and slow biodegradation, e.g. medical implants for living tissue regeneration within a mammal, such as the treatment of cardio-vascular diseases, medical prolapses, and hernias.

Supramolecular biomedical polymers

The disclosure lies in the field of regenerative medicine and relates to an implant having a matrix material, and a method for manufacturing an implant having matrix material. The disclosure further relates to a crimped implant.

Implant

The present invention relates to a supramolecular biodegradable polymer comprising a quadruple hydrogen bonding unit (abbreviated herein as '4H-unit'), a biodegradable backbone and hard blocks and a process for preparing such a supramolecular biodegradable polymer. The supramolecular polymer is specifically suitable for biodegradable articles such as biomedical implants that need high strength and/or elasticity, e.g. medical implants in the cardio-vascular field.

Supramolecular biodegradable polymer

The present invention relates to a thermoplastic elastomer according to the formula [AB], wherein A represents a soft block and B represents a hard block. The present invention further relates to a process for the preparation of the thermoplastic elastomer. The thermoplastic material is in particular suited for biomaterial applications, for example for implants and tissue engineering applications and for purposes including scaffolding material applications, e.g. for tissue engineering purposes.

Strictly segmented thermoplastic elastomers as biodegradable biomaterials

The present invention relates to improved hydrogel materials using water gellants that are comprised of polymer backbones P to which hydrogen bonding 4H-units are covalently attached via a hydrophobic linker L. Optionally, the hydrogel contains additional ingredients or additives. These new reversible hydrogels can easily be fine-tuned in their mechanical performance and function and are especially suitable for biomedical applications.

Strong reversible hydrogels

This disclosure relates to new injectable hydrogel materials that consist of water gellants comprising linear hydrophilic polymers that comprise hydrogen bonding units in the backbone combined with cross-linkable end groups, resulting in dynamic yet firm hydrogel materials that are easily processable, are highly elastic, show adhesive properties and are self-healing and are especially suitable for biomedical applications.

Durable hydrogen bonded hydrogels

The present invention relates to a modular supramolecular bioresorbable or biomedical material comprising (i) a polymer comprising at least two 4H-units and (ii) a biologically active compound. Optionally, the supramolecular bioresorbable or biomedical material comprises a bioresorbable or biomedical polymer as third component to tune its properties (mechanical and bioresorption properties). The supramolecular bioresorbable or biomedical material is especially suitable for biomedical applications such as controlled release of drugs, materials for tissue-engineering, materials for the manufacture of a prosthesis or an implant, medical imaging technologies.

Modular bioresorbable or biomedical, biologically active supramolecular materials

The invention relates to a process for the preparation of a supramolecular polymer comprising 1-50 4H-units, in which a 4H building block is reacted with a prepolymer, wherein a 4H building block comprises a 4H-unit and a reactive group according to Formula (I):4H-(L-F)&#x2003;&#x2003;(I)wherein 4H represents a 4H-unit, L represents a divalent, trivalent, tetravalent or pentavalent linking group, Frepresents a reactive group, and r is 1-4, is reacted with a pre-polymer comprising a complementary reactive group, wherein the reaction mixture comprising said 4H building block and said polymer comprises less than 10 wt. % of a non-reactive organic solvent, based on the total weight of the reaction mixture.

Process for the preparation of a supramolecular polymer

The present invention relates to a supramolecular polymer comprising 1-50 4H-units, said supramolecular polymer being obtainable by reacting at least one monomeric building block with a prepolymer. The present invention further relates to articles or compositions comprising the supramolecular polymer, in particular articles or compositions selected from the group consisting of decorative, thermo-reversible, or self-healing coatings, adhesive compositions, sealing compositions, thickeners, gelators and binders.

Supramolecular polymers from low-melting, easily processable building blocks

Fluorinated supramolecular polymers containing at least 5% by weight of covalently bonded fluorine atoms, based on total weight of the polymers are disclosed. The polymers comprise a fluorinated polymer chain and a (self-)complementary unit capable of forming at least three hydrogen bonds being covalently bonded to the fluorinated polymer chain. Also disclosed are materials comprising (a) a fluorinated supramolecular polymer and (b) a non-fluorinated polymer and/or (c) a fluorinated compound, the non-fluorinated polymer being a polymer containing less than 5% by weight of covalently bonded fluorine atoms, based on the total weight of the non-fluorinated polymer, and the fluorinated compound being either a low molecular weight fluorinated compound comprising at least one fluorine atom and having a molecular weight of 34 to 600 amu, or a fluoropolymer containing at least 5% by weight of covalently bonded fluorine atoms and a Mfrom about 600 to about 5000.
