A rotary roller printing press has a printing unit for printing a web in six printed pages arranged axially next to each other. A superstructure is used to cut the web longitudinally into three partial webs. A folding installation is used to fold the partial webs and includes at least one roller for transporting the partial webs, and at least one folding apparatus. The printing unit, the at least one roller for transporting the partial webs of the folding installation, and the folding apparatus, which is arranged after in the direction of web travel, the other devices, are each separately mechanically driven by a separate drive motor.

Rotary roller printing press

A turning device uses a turning bar for diverting a material web. The turning bar includes a sleeve with a plurality of holes and an inner chamber that is supplied with compressed air, as well as a closing body. The turning bar is supported by a frame and is able to pivot through 90&#xb0;. The closing body is movable within the inner chamber in response to this pivoting movement of the turning bar. Movement of the closing body closes one of two groups of the holes, depending on the position of the turning bar. The turning bar is connected to the frame at only one end and is supplied with compressed air through a joint connecting the turning bar to the frame.

Turning device

A turning bar is used to turn a web of material. The turning bar includes an outer jacket that is provided with holes on at least one section of its circumference. An inner chamber of the turning bar is provided with compressed air. A piston is arranged in the inner chamber and is movable to block selected ones of the holes. A motor is used to move the piston via a control signal provided by a control circuit. The turning bar can be pivoted by 90&#xb0; on a frame around a pivot axis that is perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the turning bar. A transmission couples a rotational movement of the piston around the longitudinal axis to a pivoting motion of the turning bar.

Turning bar

A guiding roller, that is used to turn a web of material, has a jacket surface provided with holes over at least a portion of its periphery. An inner surface of the guiding roller is provided with compressed air. A piston is axially displaceable in the roller inner surface and can occlude selected ones of the holes. A motor is provided for displacing the piston in response to a control signal supplied by a control circuit. The guiding roller is pivotally supported by a frame and can pivot through 90&#xb0; about a pivot axis which is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the roller. A gear mechanism couples a rotational movement of the piston about the axis to the pivotal movement of the guiding roller.

A rewetting installation is provided for use with a printed and dried material web. A wetting device applies a silicon emulsion to at least one of a first and second side of the material web. A second wetting device is located at a distance from the wetting device or devices which are used for the renewed application of the silicon emulsion to at least one side of the material web.

A folding installation of a web-fed rotary printing press includes a first group of at least two folding formers and at least one additional folding former which is offset vertically from the first group. The folding formers of the first group are adjacent and are offset from each other perpendicular to the running direction of partial webs and are arranged in a horizontal plane to at least partially overlap. Planes of symmetry of at least one folding former of the first group and the additional folding former lie essentially in a common line of a partial web running straight through the print machine. Both aligned folding formers are provided with a common group of leading rollers.

A rotating component of a printing machine is driven by a motor. A journal of the rotating components is connected to the shaft of the motor by at least a first coupling. The motor is supported for movement toward and away from the rotating component. The rotating component journal and the motor shaft are connected by the coupling in a manner that allows for the absorption of tensile and pressure stress. A second coupling allows angular movement of the motor shaft and the journal.

A water jet cutting device is used to cut a paper web into a plurality of partial paper webs. The water jet cutting device is placed between the output of a web-fed rotary printing press and the input of a folder which folds the plurality of partial paper webs.

A turning bar arrangement for redirecting the path of travel of a material web utilizes at least one turning bar and at least one register roller. The web of material is caused to be enwrapped about both and extends between both to define a plane. When viewed in a direction perpendicular to this plane, the turning bar and the register roller do not overlap.

A device for feeding a web of material utilizes a pair of low angle bar superstructures situated adjacent to each other. Two cross or transverse folding devices are situated on the same or on different planes after, in the direction of web travel, the superstructures. Wide webs of material can be processed and if one of the transverse folders fails, production can be shifted to the other folder.

Folders in a web-fed rotary printing press are associated with two spaced horizontal planes. Each of these planes is provided with a superstructure carriage that supports a plurality of turning bars. Each of the superstructure carriages can be displaced horizontally with respect to the other carriage and with respect to the folders.

A pair of partial paper web receiving superstructure units are placed above a transverse folding unit in a folding apparatus. Either a drawing unit or a longitudinal folder and its associated folder hopper inlet can be placed between the superstructure units and the transverse folder. Use of the two superstructure units allows the folding apparatus to have a low structural height.

A drawing roller drive for the conveyance of a web in a rotary printing press utilizes a differential gear to accomplish a very exact change in the speed of the drawing roller. A single drive shaft and a single power take-off shaft are aligned coaxially with respect to each other. The differential gear arrangement includes a ball race gear and a downstream tension shaft gear.

A printing unit for a rotary printing press, and that is capable of accomplishing a flying printing change, uses a single counter-pressure cylinder and two printing cylinders and ink application rollers. The counter-pressure cylinder and the ink application rollers are shiftably supported with respect to the printing cylinders. They also carry eccentric support disks that engage concentric support disks or the printing cylinders. These disks are usable to adjust the contact force between the cylinders to compensate for printing plate wear.
