An encoder device for the determination of absolute angle or linear segments is described, with which the distance from the actual to the reference position is determined upon prompting and output via incremental signals. This encoder offers new functions for the incremental measuring system employed up to now. The transition to the absolute measuring system is also made possible according to requirements.

Encoder with absolute signal processing and incremental signal output and method of using such an encoder

An absolute measuring system for the determination of angles or paths is described. During normal operation the encoder of this system is fed by a voltage supply (mains). If the voltage supply fails the encoder is switched to an auxiliary power supply which uses less energy. In this operating mode the encoder only calculates a coarse value of the measured value which it stores in the memory. To maintain the auxiliary power supply a chargeable memory is provided which is assigned to the encoder.

Measuring system for recording angular and linear absolute values

A measuring device for the recording of values, in particular angles or linear values, includes a measured value processor and a sensor arrangement, which supplies two phase-shifted signals. Connected in series to the sensor arrangement is an adjustment unit, which adjusts the amplitudes of the phase- shifted signals to one another and/or produces from them signals out of phase by about 90&#xb0;, which are then evaluated.

Measuring device to record values, in particular angles or linear segments

A measuring system for recording angular and linear absolute values has a scale with a measuring track to create the absolute value that is recorded by a sensor configuration. The scale is composed of at least two segments configured in the same way to record absolute values. The scale has at least one track suitable for determining the absolute value of each segment reached using the sensor configuration. The measuring system contains switches that provide the total absolute value for further processing made up of the absolute value of the segment and the calculated absolute value within the segment. The system is supplied by a main power supply. There is also a switch configuration that switches to auxiliary power when the main power fails and the sensor configuration is only used in this operating mode to determine the absolute value of the particular segment reached.

A measuring system for the recording of angular or position values, wherein the scale includes a measurement track with absolute encoding, and which is scanned by a sensor is provided. The scale is composed of at least two segments with similar absolute encoding, and a suitable track is provided on the scale with which the absolute value of the particular segment reached is calculated by a further sensor arrangement. The total absolute value is then gained from the combination of both absolute values.

An arrangement for interpolating signals interpolates an analog measured signal which is dependant on a measured variable and which is fed to a voltage divider whose pickoff signals are fed to comparators from whose output signals the interpolated measured variable is determined. In order to reduce cost, the pickoff signals are fed by switches to comparators whose number is smaller than that of the pickoff signals. In this process the switches must connect the pickoff signals to the comparators consistently.

Arrangement and process for interpolating a measured signal

A sensor system is provided in which a digital absolute value of the particular position of a stationary part (stator) with respect to a part moving relative to it (rotor) is created, which is transferred in serial transmission to an evaluation circuitry, whereby transfer of the serial absolute value is induced each time by an external signal. In order to increase the resolution of the encoder, the change in absolute value is recorded each time in the sensor and finest interpolation is undertaken beginning each time from the time of the change. Finally, the absolute value is amended by the accumulated result of finest interpolation when interrogated by the external signal.

Sensor system for measuring angles and positions

An apparatus for measuring angles and/or distances includes a sensing head with sensors for determining absolute values and incremental values. The incremental values are provided between two successive absolute values. The apparatus further includes a scale embodiment, which is assigned to the sensing head, and a device for forming a total absolute value from an absolute value determined by a sensor and an incremental value determined by a sensor and for providing this total absolute value in binary/digital form over the entire operating range. The entire signal processing is therefore carried out in the sensing head, so that the complicated signal transmission can be simplified significantly, and complicated peripheral electronics can be dispensed with. A method of measuring angles and/or distances is also provided.

Method and apparatus for measuring angles and/or distances

An angular position/position encoder is provided for determining the position of a moving part through evaluation of the direction-specific changes in the measured values recorded and for serial output in binary form of the position determined in this way, wherein all changes in measured values are also added together, independent of the direction of movement, and then output as the result of the total distance or angle traveled.

A position of a sensing head, which contains at least one sensor, is measured with respect to a scale embodiment which contains a linear code. The measurement is performed such that a predefined resolution is achieved. Firstly, an absolute value of an initial position is determined with at least the predefined resolution, for example by evaluating the signals from all the sensors at a standstill. During the measurement, the sensing head and the scale embodiment are moved relative to each other. Fewer sensors are used than would be needed at a standstill, for example, only a single sensor is used. The information needed to achieve the predefined resolution is obtained from sensor signals of the relative movement, which are derived from the linear code. In this way, a signal for the absolute position and the number of revolutions is determined, even at high speeds. The limits set by signal processing and signal transmission are much higher than in the case of known measurement transmitters.

Measurement transmitter and method for measuring a position of a sensing head with respect to a scale embodiment

An optical angle and/or distance measurement module for measuring its position with respect to a scale embodiment contains a device for light detection and a device for imaging part of the scale embodiment on the light detection device. In addition, the module contains a beam splitter, through the use of which firstly incident light can be guided onto the scale embodiment and secondly, light coming from the scale embodiment can be guided to the detection device. The module can contain two module elements, of which a first module element contains the light detection device and a second module element contains a device for permitting a sliding relative movement with respect to the scale embodiment. An integrated incorporated measurement transmitter can be implemented with the module. The measurement transmitter can be incorporated cost-effectively and in an integrated manner and nevertheless permits a high resolution.
