A keyboard for a computer receptive to a modular or other device, and a modular touch screen device having at least one changeable virtual key, are described. The keyboard includes a connector receptive to a corresponding connector of a device such as a personal digital assistant (PDA) device. The device communicates with a computer through the keyboard in a docking mode. The modular touch screen device extends the capability of a keyboard to which it is connected in a docking mode by providing changeable virtual keys. In a stand-alone mode, the modular touch screen device acts as a truncated wireless keyboard, or a dynamic remote control, for a computer.

A remote control device is provided with a rotatably mounted door member. The device has a main body with two, three, or more sides adapted for having selection buttons coupled therewith. The door member covers the selection buttons for the sides not in use so that the user can grasp the device or set the device on a surface without inadvertent actuation of the selection buttons. The remote control device also has a locking mechanism for preventing access to certain selection buttons on certain side surfaces.

An integrated docking tray assembly capable of docking a portable computer, in particular a laptop or notebook computer, comprising a tray having a docking station integrated therein for docking the portable computer. The tray is mounted underneath a work surface such as a desktop, tabletop, cabinet, shelf, or the like so that it may move between a closed position substantially retracted beneath the surface and an open position at least partially extended from the surface. Thus, when the portable computer is received in the tray and docked to the docking station, its keyboard and display may be accessed for use when the tray is in the open position and stored in the tray underneath the desktop when the tray is in the closed position. The tray may further include a support for providing support to a user's wrists while the user is typing on the keyboard of the computer.

A printer includes a housing which has a user access surface. Attached to the housing is a printer which includes a paper path. The printer also includes a paper input tray and a paper output tray. Both the paper trays are accessible from the user access surface. The user access surface also has an access panel within the user access surface. The paper path is positioned within the housing so that it is accessible through the access panel. The printer cartridges which contain the material used to make an image on the paper, such as a toner cartridge for use with a laser printer or one or more ink wells for use with an ink jet printer, are also positioned within the housing of the printer so as to be near the user access surface. The printer cartridges are accessible through the access panel. Optionally, the printer cartridges could also be accessed through a special panel in the user access surface. The user access surface also includes at least one control for controlling a function of the printer and a status indicator for indicating the status of the printer so that the function of the printer can be controlled from the user access surface and so that the status indicator can be read from the user access surface of the housing.

A detachable keyboard provides options to a computer user between a complete keyboard and a partial keyboard. The detachable keyboard comprises two sections, a docking station having a set of functions and a partial keyboard having a different set of functions. The partial keyboard is removed from the docking station when the partial keyboard is desired. If the complete keyboard is desired, then the partial keyboard section is mated with the docking station to provide a user both sets of functions. The detachable keyboard and the partial keyboard section are operable in either a wireless or wired configuration with each other and a computer system.
