An electrically powered, hand-held screw driver () has a housing (), a depth stop () arranged on this housing (), a drive motor (), an axially displaceable tool spindle () operatively coupled with a tool holder (), and a torque coupling () arranged between the drive motor () and tool spindle () and which has a motor-side coupling part () and a tool-side coupling part () connected to the tool spindle () so as to be fixed with respect to rotation relative to it. The two coupling parts () can be made to engage with one another and the tool spindle () is biased away from the motor-side coupling part () by means of a coupling spring (). The tool-side coupling part () has axial movement play (a) relative to the tool spindle () and is mechanically coupled with a movement transmitter that is separate from the coupling spring ().

A screw setting tool including a housing (1), a tool spindle (8) located in the housing (1) and axially displaceable relative thereto, a bit stop (2) provided in the housing (1) for limiting an axial displacement of the tool spindle (8) in a direction opposite to the screw-in direction and adjustable in a direction parallel to a screw-in direction, a spring (10) for biasing the tool spindle (8) in the screw-in direction, and a torque clutch (3) for connecting the tool spindle (8) with a drive motor, the torque clutch (3) having a first clutch member (4) driven by the drive motor, a second clutch member (6) fixedly connectable with the tool spindle (8) for joint rotation therewith, and an intermediate clutch member (5) located between the first and second clutch members (4, 6) and supported on the tool spindle (8) for rotation therearound and an axial displacement relative thereto between an entraining position, in which the intermediate clutch member (5) transmits torque from the first clutch member (4) to the second clutch member (6), and an overload position in which no torque is transmitted from the first clutch member (4) to the second clutch member (6).

Screw setting tool

A manually operable tool for driving screws has a drive pinion (3) axially fixed with a housing (1). A spindle (5) in the housing (1) is axially displaceable relative to the drive pinion against the force of a first spring (4). A clutch element (6) is located in a passageway in a collar (20) on the drive pinion (3) and is radially displaceable by a actuating member (8) for engaging the spindle (5) to the drive pinion. In the engaged position the clutch element (6) sits against a stop surface (9) in the spindle (5). The actuation member (8) is axially displaceable by stops (10, 11) located on the spindle (5) and can be axially fixed to the drive pinion by a retaining element (14) and a snap-element (15).

Screw driving tool

A screw driving tool includes a housing (1) containing a motor (2), and an axially fixed drive pinion (3) powered by the motor. An axially extending spindle (5) is mounted in the housing (1) and is axially displaceable against the force of a spring (4) relative to the drive pinion and a ball shaped clutch element (6) positioned between the drive pinion and the spindle and cooperating with stop faces on the drive pinion and spindle. The clutch element (6) can be disengaged from the drive pinion and is axially displaceable and rotatable to a limited extent relative to the spindle (5).

Screw-driving tool

A drilling and/or chipping tool has a locking sleeve (9) axially displaceable through a first axial length (A1) and a second axial length (A2). When the locking sleeve (9) is axially displaced through the first length (A1) a rotationally fixed connection between a tool bit holder (10) and a housing (1) of the tool is interrupted. If the locking sleeve is displaced by the second length (A2) the tool bit holder (10) can be removed from the tool.

Drilling and/or chipping tool

A manually operated tool for chipping material from a surface includes a plurality of axially extending needle-type chisels (8) located within a housing (1) and guided in a needle cage (12) positioned within the housing. The needle cage (12) is freely axially displaceable between a stop shoulder (15b) of a guide sleeve (14) and an anvil (17) both of which are axially displaceable within the housing. The guide sleeve (14) is pressed by a compression spring (16) against the anvil (17).

Manually operated chipping tool

A drilling tool has a shifting unit including a rotatable shifting lever (6) with a shifting cam (9) for switching between different operating positions corresponding to different operating speeds. For holding the shifting lever (6) in the operating positions, a spring clip (14) is mounted on the lever and is rotatable relative to the tool housing. The spring clip has detents (14a, 14b) arranged to snap into recesses (1d, 1e) in a bolt-like part of the housing which rotationally supports the shifting lever (6).

Drilling tool speed shifting unit

In a hand-held tool having a tool holder for receiving a variety of tool bits, a probing device is provided for checking the surface configuration of the shank of a tool bit inserted into the tool holder. The probing device includes at least one control element arranged to move radially inwardly through an opening in the tool holder. If the control element moves radially inwardly into an axially elongated recess in the tool bit shank, it moves out of stopping engagement with a slide permitting the slide to move relative to the control element and initiating a switching operation for changing the driving action of the hand-held tool.

Hand-held tool with switching means for variable operation

A hand-held device, such as a hammer drill, has a replaceable axially extending holder for a working tool. The device includes a sensor and a signal transmitter for adjusting its operating characteristics. The holder has through openings containing locking elements and control elements. The locking elements and control elements are radially displaceable within the through openings by a locking sleeve. The position of the locking sleeve in the axial direction of and relative to the holder determines the cooperation of the sensor and the signal transmitters.

Variably operable hand-held device

A hand-held device with a holder for a working tool has a sensing mechanism for automatically initiating different operating modes. Different configurations of working tools inserted into the holder can be sensed by sensing elements in the form of balls. The balls cooperate with pivotal levers and a sensor for producing switching signals for initiating a switching operation.

Hand-held device with tool sensing means

In a drilling device, a tool mounted in the device can be selectively switched from right-hand rotation to left-hand rotation. The tool can be connected to an output shaft on which two conical gear wheels are mounted in spaced relation so that they can be rotated in opposite directions around the output shaft. The teeth on the conical gear wheels face one another and are in meshed engagement with gear teeth on a drive shaft. A coupling part is slidably displaceably mounted on the output shaft and can be engaged with one or the other of the conical gear wheels. The coupling part is secured on the output shaft so that as it is rotated by one or the other conical gear wheels, in turn, it rotates the output shaft in the desired direction.

Drilling device

In a hammer drill, a striking mechanism supplied percussive force to a tool. The striking mechanism includes a free piston slidably displaceable in a reciprocating manner within a guide cylinder. Balls mounted in the guide cylinder are spring biased into a recess in the free piston for securing the piston in a locked position so that it cannot deliver percussive force to the tool. The balls are spring biased by a ring encircling the cylinder with a spring pressing the ring in the axial direction of the cylinder against the balls.

Lockable striking mechanism for hammer drill

A hammer drill can be switched between combined rotary and impact operation and impact operation. An electropneumatic mechanism provides the impact force and includes a guide cylinder with a beveled gear wheel extending around the outside surface of the cylinder. The gear wheel is driven by a drive wheel. A coupling sleeve is mounted on the guide cylinder for rotation with it and is axially displaceable relative to the cylinder between a first position in meshed engagement with the gear wheel and a second position displaced out of meshed engagement. A switching device moves the coupling sleeve between the two positions. In the first position, the coupling sleeve rotates the guide cylinder, while in the second position the guide cylinder is locked against rotation. The switching device includes a control cam engaged within a groove extending in the circumferential direction of the outside surface of the guide cylinder. In the second position of the coupling sleeve, the control cam is moved inwardly relative to the cylinder into one of a plurality of detent openings formed in the base of the groove for locking the guide cylinder so that it does not perform any rotary movement.

Hammer drill with rotational lock

A hammer drill includes a unit for supplying impact force to a tool inserted into the hammer drill and a unit for supplying rotational forces to the tool. A first drive motor drives the impact force unit and a second drive motor drives the rotational force unit. The motors can be operated independently of one another. A first drive train interconnects the first drive motor to the impact force unit and a second drive train interconnects the second drive motor and the rotational force unit. A coupling device interconnects the first and second drive trains so that at least one of the impact force unit the rotational force unit can be selectively driven by both the first and second motors.
