A method and apparatus for scanning a target region. A divergence of a laser beam during scanning of the target region is set. The laser beam is directed to different locations in the target region at a scan angle. The scan angle of the laser beam is set while the laser beam is directed to the different locations. Changing at least one of the divergence or an amount of change in the scan angle during scanning of the target region changes a resolution for the target region.

Variable resolution light radar system

A light assembly is configured to provide a uniform light pattern onto a target, and may include a housing, a light source retained within the housing, wherein the light source is configured to generate a generated light beam, and a light homogenizer retained with the housing and disposed within a light path downstream from the light source. The light homogenizer includes a main body having an input end and an output end, and is configured to receive the generated light beam at the input end. The light homogenizer is configured to homogenize the generated light beam and output homogenized light at the output end. A focusing lens may be moveably retained with the housing and disposed within the light path downstream from the light homogenizer. The focusing lens is configured to focus the homogenized light onto the target.

A light assembly may include a reflector having a focal point in space, and a first light source configured to generate a first light at a first wavelength proximate to the focal point during a first illumination mode. The first light reflects off the reflector as a first collimated beam at the first wavelength. One or more second light sources are configured to direct one or more second light beams at one or more different wavelengths towards the focal point during a second illumination mode. The different wavelength(s) differ from the first wavelength. At least a portion of the second light beam(s) reflects off the reflector as one or more second collimated beams at the different wavelength(s).

A filter for use with an illumination device of a type having a reflector with an exit opening and an illumination source mounted within the reflector, the reflector shaped to direct radiation emitted from the illumination source through the exit opening. The filter may include an outer support attached to a periphery of the exit opening; an inner support concentric with the outer support; a filter having a plurality of filter elements extending between and pivotally attached to the inner and the outer supports, the filter elements being shaped and positioned to substantially cover the exit opening to filter the emitted radiation passing through the exit opening when pivoted to a closed position, and to allow the emitted radiation to pass substantially unfiltered through the exit opening when pivoted to an open position; and an actuator connected to pivot the filter elements to the closed and open positions.

Method and apparatus for selective filtering of an illumination device

A method and system for enhancing spectrometer function may include initially exposing an array of photosensors of the spectrometer to spectral radiation and recording a first data set of photosensor counts within a predetermined measurement range; making a plurality of successive exposures of the photosensors to the radiation, and for each, progressively increasing an intensity of the radiation from the previous exposure, recording counts from the photosensors within the predetermined measurement range, disregarding counts from photosensors that already have recorded counts within the measurement range from a previous exposure to the radiation to make a data set of measured counts, and rescaling the data set of measured counts to adjust for the increasing an intensity of the spectral radiation to form a rescaled data set; and stitching together the first data set and each rescaled data set of measured counts to form a resultant data set of spectral irradiance.

Method and system for enhancing spectrometer function

Described in this application for patent is a novel method and apparatus for modifying a searchlight from a visible-light source to an infrared source. This selective filtering is accomplished by means of a partially filtered cover about the light source which may be moved between first and second positions. In a first position, light projected by the light source passes through an unfiltered section of the lamp cover. In a second position, light projected by the light source passes through a filtered section of the lamp cover.

Internal covert IR filter for searchlight systems

A filter for an illumination device may include wedge-shaped lenses arranged about an opening of the illumination device and pivotable between open and closed positions. When pivoted to a closed position, the lenses substantially cover the illumination device opening and block or filter radiation emitted therefrom. When pivoted to an open position, the lenses lie substantially perpendicular to the plane of the illumination device opening, allowing radiation emitted from the illumination device to pass through the opening unfiltered. In one aspect, the filter may include radially inner and outer supports, and each lens element may be pivotally attached to, and pivot about a radially extending pivot axis extending between, the inner and outer supports.
