Systems for displaying images in a cinema setting can include components to reduce screen-door effect. The systems can include an array of light emitting sources or other active sources of light. In one example, the light emitting source emit pixels of light to a projection lens to project an image represented by the projection lens and a baffle and an aperture stop can block part of the light from the sources that exceeds an allowable cone angle of acceptable of the system. In another example, a display includes the array of light emitting sources and additional elements, such as diffuser elements, positioned in front of the array of light emitting sources.

Light conditioning of direct view display for cinema

A system may include a projector subsystem in a theatre projecting fight toward a screen, a sensor measuring light levels of the projected light, and a processing device. The projector subsystem may project light such that there is a hazardous light area and a non-hazardous light area of an audience seating area. The processing device may receive a measured light level of projected light from the sensor. The processing device may determine a second light level between the hazardous light area and the non-hazardous light area based on the measured light level and the position of the light projected over the audience seating area. The processing device may compare the second light level to an unsafe threshold light level. The processing device may determine a configuration for the system such that the light level of projected light in the non-hazardous light area is less than the unsafe threshold light level.

Methods and systems for controlling light output based on a light level threshold at a boundary

A projection system includes a projection lens to project image light along an image light path towards a port window and to redirect a portion of the image light away from the image light path as result of being scattered or reflected away from the image light path. The projection system includes a port window for transmitting projected image light from the projection lens. The port window has a surface for redirecting a portion of the projected image light as result of being scattered or reflected away from the image light path. The projection system includes an enclosure positioned between the port window and the projection lens to surround the image light path between the port window and the projection lens. The enclosure absorbs the portion of the image light redirected by the projection lens and absorbs the portion of the projected image light redirected by the surface.

A light emitting display can be formed from tiles mounted within a certain distance range with respect to each other and with an established blending region positioned towards the edges of the tiles. A tile can be a matrix of light emitting elements, such as LEDs, OLEDs, quantum dots, or other element that emits light. The tolerance of spacing between tiles can allow for less precision in alignment during installation in a theatre, thereby reducing display assembly cost but still maintaining a display for displaying an image at a high quality with reduced or eliminated appearance of visual artifacts between tiles.

Embodiments of the present invention comprise electronic projection systems and methods. One embodiment of the present invention comprises a method of creating composite images with a projection system comprising as first projector and at least a second projector, comprising generating a correspondence map of pixels for images by determining offsets between pixels from at least a second image from the second projector and corresponding pixels from a first image from the first projector, receiving a source image, warping the source image based at least in part on the correspondence map to produce a warped image, and displaying the source image by the first projector and displaying the warped image by the second projector to create a composite image.

Systems and methods for projecting composite images

Embodiments of the present invention comprise electronic projection systems and methods. One embodiment of the present invention comprises a method of creating composite images with a projection system comprising a first projector and at least a second projector, comprising generating a correspondence map of pixels for images by determining offsets between pixels from at least a second image from the second projector and corresponding pixels from a first image from the first projector, receiving a source image, warping the source image based at least in part on the correspondence map to produce a warped image, and displaying the source image by the first projector and displaying the warped image by the second projector to create a composite image.

Systems including projection mechanisms, screens, and eyeglasses are detailed. The systems significantly reduce perceptible ghosting even when high contrast images (such as dark figures against a white background) are projected.

Method and apparatus for presenting stereoscopic images

Stereoscopic images are presented by alternately displaying corresponding left eye and right eye images in succession, substantially extinguishing transmission of light from the left eye images to the right eye of a viewer and from the right eye images to the left eye of the viewer, for example by the use of polarizing filters, and alternately and in synchronism with the alternate display of images, scattering unextinguished light from the left eye images that leaks through to the viewer's right eye and from the right eye images that leaks through to the viewer's left eye. In a preferred embodiment, scattering is achieved by using a liquid crystal scattering shutter that is electrically triggered in synchronism with the display of images. The shutter disperses the unextinguished light that leaks through the system so that no image information is perceived and the light appears merely as a slight increase in background illumination.

An alternate eye 3-d projection system has a projector projecting alternate eye left and right images, has alternating eye 3-d glasses alternating between left and right lens transmissiveness, and has a phase delay unit synchronizing the left lens transmissiveness to left images and right lens transmissiveness to right images. A timing shutter is driven through a mechanical link to the projector primary mechanism at a frequency proportional to the frequency of the transition between images. A sensor outputs pulses according to the rotationally frequency of the timing shutter. The phase delay unit receives the pulses, a multiplier multiplies the frequency of the pulses, a phase lock loop locks on to the frequency and a counter counts the pulses. After a preset delay the counter outputs a pulse. The delay is adjustable. The counter pulse enables a 60 KHz oscillator. The oscillations are counted by another counter and passed to a transmitter. The 60 KHz oscillations are disabled when the other counter reaches a preset amount. The other counter sets the duty cycle of the transmitter. Each of the components in the unit is duplicated in a back-up section. The back-up section is enabled when the primary phase lock loop is not locked on and the back-up phase locked loop is locked on.
