Head for a rock drill

A drill including a shank (1) for connecting the drill with a drive tool, a stem (2) adjoining the shank (1) and having at most two helical discharge grooves (6, 7) opening toward a stem circumference, a head (3) provided at an end of the stem (2) remote from the shank (1) and having a diameter substantially corresponding to the stem diameter, with the head (3) having three radially extending recesses (8) provided in its free end surface and opening toward a head circumference, with the recesses being provided with at least one hard metal bit (9) provided with cutting portions (9a) extending from a central portion (9b) to the head circumference, and with the head (3), having three grooves (10, 11, 12) arranged between the three recesses (8), opening toward the head circumference, and connected with the discharge grooves.

Boring tool

A drilling tool has a shank (1) at one end, a shaft (2) with two helical grooves (5, 6) and the shaft (2) extends from the shank to the other end of the drilling tool. A drill head (8), with a cutting plate (7) inserted in it, is located at the opposite end of the shaft (2) from the shank (1). The cutting plate (7) has a cutting tip (74) projecting axially outwardly from the drill head (8). The cutting plate has a dimension (B) extending perpendicularly to the axis of the drilling tool and the dimension (B) is greater than the diameter of the drill head (8). On the opposite sides of the cutting plate (7) there is a reinforcement section (71) projecting outwardly from the side of the cutting plate and spaced laterally from the ends of the grooves (5, 6) in the drill head.

Drilling tool

A rock drill includes an axially elongated shank with a chucking shank part (1) at one end, a drilling shank part (2) extending from the chucking shank part and having at least four drilled material conveying flutes (4, 5, 6, 7) disposed next to one another in a parallel manner, and a drilling head at the opposite end of the shank and formed of hard metal and having four removal flutes (8, 9, 10, 11) spaced apart about its outer circumferential surface. The removal flutes have transverse cross-section of different size and each of the transverse cross-sections of the removal flutes (8, 9, 10, 11) open into one of the conveying flutes (4, 5, 6, 7) of the drilling shank part.

Rock drill

A tool bit has a body (1) with an axially extending insertion end (2) for insertion into a chuck on a drive unit. The insertion end (2) has closed ended axially extending grooves (4) and axially extending grooves (5) open at the trailing end of the insertion end. The open end grooves have a base (6) with a shaped configuration (7). The shaped base has depressions or recesses (8) forming stop faces (9) extending transversely of the axial direction and acting essentially in the axial direction of the insertion end. When the insertion end (2) is placed into the chuck, any dirt on the stop faces (9) can be wiped off and deposited in the recesses (8). The shaped configuration (7) of the base (6) prevents, during formation of the axially extending grooves (4, 5), by means of grooving tools rolling in the axial direction of the insertion end (2), any undesirable length changes in the insertion end while affording sharp-edges rolling of the shaped configuration.

Grooves are formed in an insertion end of a working tool, such as a tool bit or a chisel bit by pivoting a grooving tool about a pivot axis extending perpendicularly to the axis of the insertion end. By pivoting the grooving tool about the pivot axis, it moves along the axial direction of the insertion end forming the grooves. A plurality of the grooving tools can be ganged together and moved by a single drive unit for simultaneously forming angularly spaced grooves in the insertion end.
