A ski for use on ice or snow is disclosed. The ski includes a ski body having a tip portion, a tail portion, and a longitudinal running length extending between the tip portion and the tail portion and a substantially flat bottom surface for sliding on snow or ice. The ski also includes a suspension system comprised of a substantially rigid support structure secured to the longitudinally central region of the said ski body at two attachment locations separated by a distance of at least 5 inches along the longitudinal axis of the ski body, and at least one resilient element configured to exert an opposing force between the support structure and the ski body in the area between the two attachment locations.

Automatically adaptive ski

Suspension systems are provided for skis. In some implementations, the suspension system includes a spring-like element and a support structure configured to attach one end of the spring-like element to the central half of the longitudinal running length of a ski body. The spring-like element is configured so that the opposite end of the spring-like element contacts the ski body at a contact point on the front-most or rear-most fifth of the longitudinal running length of the ski body, and applies a downward force at the contact point such that the degree of free camber of the ski is increased relative to the natural free camber of the ski body without the suspension system attached.

Suspension system for a ski

Skis and methods of skiing are provided. In some implementations, the skis include a preload, and/or have a relatively low spring rate. In one aspect, the skis include (a) a ski body having a front and a back, the front and back terminating, respectively, at a tip and tail at opposite ends of the ski body; and (b) a suspension system connected to the ski body so as to apply a load to the front and back of the ski body. In some cases, the suspension system is configured to provide the ski with a spring rate that diminishes as the ski is flexed from a normal unloaded state or a predetermined state of deflection to a state of greater deflection.

Snowboards are provided that consolidate and redirect a portion of the weight and forces of the rider to the optimal locations (near the edges and near the longitudinal center of the board), providing excellent turning and control and providing impact absorption when landing from a jump. In some implementations, an adjustable spring suspension system allows custom optimization of both the turning and ride characteristics of the snowboard.

Snowboards

A snow glider is provided having a design that facilitates gliding through snow rather than skidding. The snow glider may have a narrow waist width combined with an elevated binding assembly to promote positive engagement with a skiing surface during use. A method of skiing includes skiing downhill on a skiing surface using glider skis, wherein each ski has a ski base and a pair of edges extending along opposite sides of the base. While skiing downhill, the method of skiing also includes changing direction without skidding the skis on the skiing surface.

Gliding skis

A snow ski has at least one channel formed in the running surface to expose the inner sides of the ski edges for translating the force exerted by the ski during a turn and creating positive engagement with the skiing surface. The channel may extend the length of the ski or only a portion thereof. The channel forms edge tips on the ski edges where the inner sides are exposed. The edge tips may have different shapes to improve the bite on the skiing surface.

A snow glider is provided having a design that facilitates gliding through snow rather than skidding. The snow glider has an extremely narrow waist width combined with an elevated binding assembly to promote positive engagement with a skiing surface during use. The glider body waist is between 25-44 mm at its narrowest point. A further embodiment of the snow glider ski has secondary edges for effecting multiple, changeable turning radii in a single ski.

A photographic lighting system for use with a camera provides fill light from the direction of the camera to alleviate shadows in a photographic image obtained by the camera. The photographic lighting system includes an incident light sensor for sensing the incident light intensity on a subject to be photographed, an electric light for directing fill light toward the subject, and a control circuit for controlling the intensity of the fill light provided by the electric light in response to the sensed incident light intensity. The fill light is increased in intensity as the incident light intensity increases. The control circuit can also receive a distance input representative of the distance between the electric light and the subject and controls the fill light in response to the distance input such that the fill light intensity at the subject is substantially independent of the distance. A sensitivity input to the control circuit permits the fill light intensity to be compensated for the sensitivity of the camera.

A video camera comprises a video camera body and a light module. Structure is provided, integral with the video camera body, for selectively positioning the light module. The light module can be removably connected to the video camera body.

An electrical connection for a battery pack to a battery charger or the like consisting of a bracket including a substantially flat male plate having a plurality of spaced headed projections and female electrical terminals carried within a projecting housing and a substantially flat female plate having a plurality of keyholes designed to facilitate receiving the projections and pairs of fixed and movable male electrical terminals positioned within a recess for engagement with the female electrical terminals.

Electrical connection for battery charging apparatus or the like

A battery pack connection consists of a substantially flat male plate having a plurality of spaced headed projections and female electrical terminals carried within a projecting housing and a substantially flat female plate having a plurality of keyholes designed to facilitate receiving the projections and male electrical terminals positioned within a recess for engagement with the female electrical terminals. At least one rotatable member is mounted on the female plate and has a pin that engages over the head of a corresponding projection to enable locking of the plates in both their electrical and mechanical connected relationship. Upon rotation of the member, the pin is moved out of engagement with the projection to enable uncoupling of the plates. A safety latch can be activated to abut the rotatable member when the plates are locked together to preclude inadvertent decoupling.

Battery pack connection

A battery pack connection consists of a flat male plate having a plurality of spaced headed projections and female electrical terminals carried within a projecting housing while a flat female plate has a plurality of through keyholes for receiving the projections and male electrical terminals positioned within a recess together with a flexible strip that engages a projection to enable locking and unlocking of the plates in both their electrical and mechanical connected relationship.
