In a bringer gripper for a thread clamp a carrier body is largely open in the upward direction and has a base part and two side walls in order to form upper guides for the warp threads at the reed side and at the cloth side. The side wall at the cloth side comprises a section which extends at an inclination towards the gripper tip. A yarn-protecting deflection of warp threads that are not positioned correctly within the shed is thereby attained.

A thread holder comprises two holding members which form a gap that has a round cross-sectional shape and increasing width. Each of the thread holders is journalled on the other holding member at at least one bearing location which is executed as a bearing surface. With this arrangement the journalled holding member can easily assume a holding position that is ideal for a thread being used. The thread holder is suitable in particular for a bringer rapier of a rapier weaving machine.

A thread holder for the gripper of a gripper loom has first and second retention members which extend in a longitudinal direction. The members lie at least partially inside each other and they have opposing faces which define between them a rectilinear gap that has a curved cross-sectional shape. The second retention member is movably mounted on the first retention member so that the members can be moved with respect to each other in the longitudinal direction and so that the opposing faces provide the gap with a constant width in the longitudinal direction. The cross-sectional contour of the gap continuously increases in an effective direction of the thread holder, and the size of the gap is selected so that a weft thread inserted therein will be held by frictional force.

A yarn clamp made of two clamping members which are arranged with respect to one another so that a clamping gap is formed which has a curved cross-sectional shape of continuously decreasing width in the effective direction and a continuously increasing cross-sectional contour. The holding of a weft yarn in the clamp is effected through elastic deformation of the weft yarn and partial looping of it about one of the clamping members so that damage to the yarn is substantially avoided.

A method of restarting a loom after an interruption in the weaving process. A cloth fell (15) is moved from an operative or beating position (15) to a second position (15') away from a sley (4). The weft yarn is prevented from being fed into a shed (20) and the loom is then driven in a idling motion for a number of weaving cycles. A shed forming motion 3 and at least one of the warp let-off motion 10 and the cloth take-up motion 12 are driven independently of the predetermined weaving program. When the loom has reached its original dynamic operative state and the warp threads are at the original operative tension, the cloth fell is advanced to the beating position of the sley and the loom is restarted according to the predetermined weaving program. This method prevents visible points of start from occurring in the fabric because of the interruption in the weaving process.
