A rotary union includes a non-rotating component forming a bore, and a non-rotating seal carrier slidably disposed in the bore. A pressure sleeve is slidably disposed in the bore between the non-rotating component and the non-rotating seal carrier. A non-rotating seal member is disposed on the non-rotating seal carrier, and a rotating seal carrier has a rotating seal member disposed thereon. Wherein the rotating seal member is disposed in opposed relation to the non-rotating seal member such that a sliding mechanical face seal is formed between the non-rotating and rotating seal members when the non-rotating seal carrier slides towards the rotating seal carrier in the presence of fluid pressure.

A rotary device having a housing, a rotating machine component, a rotating member associated with the rotating machine component, a nonrotating member disposed within the housing adjacent the rotating member, and a sensor array disposed in the housing. The sensor array includes a plurality of sensing elements that are integrated with a control device and a wireless communication device. The wireless communication device is configured to communicate with a central control that is remotely located relative to the housing using electromagnetic waves.

Method for operating a rotary device

A rotary union includes a housing forming a bore and a piston bore having an open end and disposed at a radially offset distance with respect to the bore. The piston bore is fluidly isolated from the bore. A seal carrier is slidably disposed within the bore, and includes an actuation arm extending radially outwardly relative to the bore such that it overlaps the piston bore. A piston slidably disposed in the piston bore is extendible to releasably abut the actuation arm and urge the seal carrier to displace relative to the bore when the piston displaces relative to the piston bore.

A slip ring assembly includes a housing having a stator that rotatably supports a rotor. The rotor includes conductive disks that are electrically connected to respective conductors extending through a rotor shaft. The stator includes brushes that slidably and electrically engage the conductive disks. The one or more brushes are electrically connected to stator conductors extending at least partially through the stator. Electrical pathways are defined and extend from the stator conductors, the brushes, the conductive disks, and the respective conductors in the shaft. A smart board is connected to the stator and includes electronic components configured to monitor operation of the slip ring assembly and provide signals to an external source. The smart board is electrically connected to, and powered by, electrical power that is present and available on the stator conductors.

A rotary union that includes rotating and non-rotating machine components, each having a sealing ring, which can together form a mechanical face seal. A rotor disposed on the rotating machine component includes one or more magnets. A sensor array disposed in the housing includes a plurality of sensing elements that are integrated with a control device, a communication device, and a power storage device. The sensor array further includes a magnetic pickup coil disposed to closely overlap the outer periphery of the rotor. When the rotating machine component rotates, the magnet creates a rotating magnetic field that cooperates with the magnetic pickup coil to produce electrical power to operate the sensor array.

A rotary union includes a housing having a shaft rotatably mounted in a bore. A plurality of annular plates is mounted on the shaft in spaced relation, and a plurality of spools is disposed in alternating fashion between the plurality of annular plates on the shaft. Each spool includes two seal rings creating mechanical face seals with adjacent annular plates. The shaft, the plurality of annular plates and the plurality of spools are arranged to assemble in a stacked arrangement, which is insertable as a whole into the cylindrical bore of the housing.

A rotary union adapted for connection on a support segment for a shaft includes a sensor disposed within a sensor housing, the sensor housing connected to the housing of the rotary union, and a sound conduit having first and second ends, the first end of the sound conduit being connected to the sensor housing, and the second end of the sound conduit being adapted to be connected to a second support segment for the shaft opposite the first support segment along the shaft, wherein the sensor includes a sensing element in physical contact with the first end of the sound conduit, the sensing element configured to provide a signal in response to vibration present along the sound conduit.

A rotary device includes a housing, a rotating machine component, a rotating member associated with the rotating machine component, a non-rotating member disposed within the housing adjacent the rotating member, and a sensor array disposed in the housing. A rotary union includes a housing, a rotating machine component supported in the housing, a rotating seal member associated with the rotating machine component, a non-rotating seal member slidably and sealably disposed within the housing adjacent the rotating seal member, an expandable seal disposed between the non-rotating seal member and the housing, and an internal clamp disposed within an end portion of the expandable seal such that the end portion of the expandable seal is compressed between the internal clamp and the bore of the housing.

A rotary union includes a housing having a fluid inlet, a rotating machine component rotatably supported in the housing, a rotating seal member associated with the rotating machine component, a non-rotating seal member slidably and sealably disposed within the housing adjacent the rotating seal member, and an expandable seal disposed between and sealably engaging each of the non-rotating seal member and the housing. The expandable seal includes two end portions, one of the two end portions engaged to the non-rotating seal member and the other of the two end portions engaged to the housing, and an expandable portion disposed axially between the two end portions, the expandable portion having an axial length that varies based on a pressure of a hydraulic fluid that is present at the fluid inlet.

A barrel cam rudder pedal system is provided. The system includes an outer housing with a chassis assembly carried by the outer housing. A barrel cam arrangement is rotationally mounted within an interior space of the chassis assembly. A pair of pedal assemblies is mechanically coupled to the barrel cam arrangement such that linear movement of either of the pair of pedal assemblies results in a rotation of the barrel cam arrangement about a central longitudinal axis defined by the barrel cam arrangement.

An electromechanical portion of the control stick includes a two-axis gimbal, with each axis including a mechanical gimbal structure supported by rolling element bearings, cam based centering mechanisms, linkages to connect a geared power-drive including a resolver commutated brushless DC motor and compound-planetary gearhead to provide active force feedback, and several electrically independent RVDT position sensors. The gearing architecture uses a fixed-cage, rotating internal gear arrangement on a planetary gearhead, which may be single or multi-stage. The output torque of the gearhead is provided by a feature on the outer housing of the rotating internal ring gear, allowing an axial placement of the entire power-drive in a more central location, reducing the moment load on the gearhead output cage bearings, and facilitating a compact drive arrangement of the gimbal using linkages. Additionally, a common power-drive can be used for both the roll and pitch axes.
