A flexible pouch formed in the sheath wall for containing a biological agent is capable of being displaced radially outwardly for radially displacing the biological agent.

A device for delivering biological agents includes a cannula for insertion into tissue having a distal end with a notch formed therein. A flexible membrane extending across the cannula notch has a surface for supporting a quantity of a biological agent. A temperature controlled fluid is disposed within the cannula for displacing the support surface of the membrane laterally with respect to the cannula to deliver the biological agent with precision to a tissue site or body cavity.

A unitary, flexible, substantially noncollapsible catheter tube of biocompatible material is comprised of hard and soft regions. The hard regions can be ring shaped or helical. The hard regions provide sufficient rigidity to the tube to prevent collapse under normal usage as the interior and exterior pressures vary. The soft regions provide sufficient flexibility to allow contoured placement of the tube. The hard regions can be created by exposing a polymer in the tube to radiation. The hard regions can also be created by periodically adding a harder material to the tube.

A subcutaneous drug delivery device having a driving member for advancing a piston, concentrically enclosed by a cannula, to deliver a drug pellet to a subcutaneous tissue site. The piston has a recessed distal platform upon which the pellet rests for delivery when the distal end of the piston is exposed beyond the cannula.

A surgical access device for subcutaneous implantation in a patient adjacent a bodily cavity. The device comprises a resilient biocompatible plate, a slit through the plate and a skirt which extends internally from the edge of the slit. The device has attachment points for securing the device subcutaneously to muscle or other tissue. The slit through the plate opens in response to an appropriate force to provide access to the bodily cavity through the skirt.
