A method of automatically jettisoning cargo suspended from a suspension system coupled to an auto jettison system, includes receiving an initial load value from at least one attachment point of the suspension system, the receiving of the initial load value in response to attaching the cargo to the suspension system; receiving an instantaneous load value of the cargo suspended on an attachment point, the attachment point being coupled to the cargo; predicting a rate of change of the instantaneous load value at a predetermined future time period; combining the predicted rate of change of the instantaneous load value with the initial load value to create a predicted load value; comparing the predicted load value to a threshold value for the attachment point; and jettisoning the cargo from the attachment point if the predicted value is greater than the threshold value.

An external hook system for a rotary-wing aircraft includes a lower frame interface which accommodates longitudinal and lateral loads and an upper frame interface. A tension member is mountable between the lower frame interface and the upper frame interface to transfer tension loads between the lower frame interface and the upper frame interface.

External cargo hook system for rotary-wing aircraft

An interactive aircraft load management system automates calculation and provides simulation capability to changes in an aircraft C.G. limit for display on a three-dimensional aircraft symbology. The aircraft load management system also communicates with a fly by wire (FBW) flight control system wherein the aircraft's control system is programmed to automatically compensate for C.G. excursions and to alter control laws. The aircraft load management system also selectively reels-in and reels out sling lines as the aircraft pitches and rolls to maintain a load vector from a slung load along the aircraft centerline. Load vector travel is accomplished by coupling a winch control system into the flight control system.

System and method for improved rotary-wing aircraft performance with interior/external loads

A telescoping aerial refueling probe includes a second section and a ball screw. The first section is telescopically mounted to the second section. The ball screw is rotationally mounted along the longitudinal axis of the probe. A hydraulic motor rotates the ball screw to drive a ball screw nut and attached first section relative the second section. The hydraulic motor communicates with the hydraulic system and is operated in response to a control system. A backup motor such as an electric motor alternatively drives the ball screw upon failure of the hydraulic motor. As only the backup motor is required for redundancy, minimal additional weight is added to the probe and a relatively compact system is provided.
