Systems and methods are provided herein that generally involve shunting fluid, e.g., shunting cerebrospinal fluid in the treatment of hydrocephalus. Self-cleaning catheters are provided which include split tips configured such that pulsatile flow of fluid in a cavity in which the catheter is inserted can cause the tips to strike one another and thereby clear obstructions. Catheters with built-in flow indicators are also provided. Exemplary flow indicators include projections that extend radially inward from the interior surface of the catheter and which include imageable portions (e.g., portions which are visible under magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)). Movement of the flow indicators caused by fluid flowing through the catheter can be detected using MRI, thereby providing a reliable indication as to whether the catheter is partially or completely blocked. Systems and methods for flushing a shunt system are also disclosed herein, as are various systems and methods for opening auxiliary fluid pathways through a shunt system.

Systems and methods for shunting fluid

A device for use within a woman's urethra for obstructing urine outflow when the pressure in the woman's abdomen is at or above a threshold pressure level (IAP1). The device also allows urine outflow when the intra-abdominal pressure is below the threshold pressure level (IAP1). The device includes a flexible tube that is configured to be inserted into a urethra, wherein the tube defines a lumen that has inlet and outlet openings. The tube is configured to receive, conduct and discharge urine. The tube is further configured such that the lumen is at least partially obstructed when the pressure on the urethra surrounding the tube at least meets the threshold pressure (IAP1), and the lumen is more open when the pressure on the urethra surrounding the tube is at a level below a second, lower, threshold pressure (IAP2).

The present disclosure relates to a monitor for sensing and transmitting sounds in a baby's vicinity. The monitor includes a housing having a base and two substantially spaced-apart legs, the housing enclosing acoustical and electrical means for sensing and transmitting the sounds. The monitor is mountable on a support by straddling the support with the substantially spaced-apart legs. The present disclosure also relates to a sound monitoring system. The system includes the monitor, a receiver, and a charger. Further, the present disclosure relates to a method of securedly and releasably mounting the monitor to a support.

The present remote child monitoring system includes a plurality of transmitters for transmitting audio signals at different frequencies from different locations and at least one receiver remote from the transmitters for receiving and announcing the transmitted audio signal from the plurality of transmitters. The receiver has a first mode for sequentially announcing the transmitted audio from the transmitters and a second mode for announcing the audio from a selected transmitter.

Juvenile monitoring system

A door lock is provided for use with a door handle having a lever movable about a shaft extending perpendicularly to the lever and connected to a latch mechanism which controls the opening and closing of a door. The lock includes a housing configured to be coupled to the door handle and a blocking member movable relative to the housing between a lever-blocking position blocking movement of the lever to prevent opening of the door and a lever-releasing position permitting movement of the lever to permit opening of the door. From the lever-blocking position, the blocking member is moved to the lever-releasing position by first pushing the blocking member inwardly against a spring to free the blocking member, and then moving the blocking member relative to the housing.

An infant thermometer assembly includes a cover portion and a thermometer portion pivotably coupled to the cover portion and pivotably movable relative to the cover portion about a pivot axis between a use position and a stowed position. The thermometer portion includes a probe and a housing coupled to the probe. The housing includes a display screen and a power button. The cover portion includes a cavity formed to receive at least a portion of the housing of the thermometer portion in the use and stowed positions and a cut-out formed to receive the probe of the thermometer portion in the stowed position.

Infant thermometer

A latch for a cabinet door or drawer for preventing access to the interior of the cabinet or drawer. The latch includes a hook spring biased to engage a catch and that allows the door or drawer to be only slightly opened enough to allow a caregiver to reach the latch and displace it out of the way so that the door or drawer can then be fully opened. When released the latch returns to the biased position. The latch may also disengage the spring so as to be fully disabled and allow the door or drawer to be opened freely.

A lockable electrical outlet socket closure plug includes a plug housing including an inner plate and a socket blade appended to the inner plate and adapted to extend into a blade receiver opening formed in the electrical outlet socket. The closure plug further includes a retainer for selectively retaining the plug housing in a mounted position on an electrical outlet socket and a controller mounted for movement in the plug housing and arranged normally to reinforce the retainer to cause the plug housing to remain in the mounted position on the electrical outlet socket.

A security gate for closing a passage has a pair of panels movable translationally with respect to one another to alter the effective width of the gate. An actuating mechanism for forcing the opposite ends of the panels against the sides of the passage includes a handle mounted on one of the panels controlling a latching device operative for locking the handle in a fixed relationship with respect to the other of the panels. The latching device in accordance with one embodiment includes a rack and brake. When the latch is engaged, a cam also controlled by the handle engages the panel on which the handle is mounted to force the two panels translationally further apart so as to bear firmly against the sides of the passage to hold the gate in position.
