An apparatus for mixing, grinding, dispersing or emulsifying including a rotatable drive, a rotor body connected for rotation with the drive and having at least one aperture for fluid flow through the rotor body and a flow divider plate structure extending within the rotor body for preventing conglomeration of particulates contained within the fluid in the rotor body. Preferably, a stator body is secured outside of the rotor body and each of the rotor and stator bodies include respective apertures for allowing fluid flow therethrough. The flow divider plate structure prevents the usual swirling action of liquid and solid particulates within the rotor body such that the mixture has a more desirable flow pattern and so that particulates do not conglomerate to form a mass that clogs the rotor body. Further aspects and embodiments of the invention provide advantageous seal structure and structure for increasing productivity.

Apparatus for mixing, grinding, dispersing or emulsifying

Wet grinding apparatus including a grinding unit having outer grinding discs and an inner rotating grinding disc. A drive shaft is attached to the rotatable disc and extends centrally through one side of the housing. The other side of the housing includes at least one central inlet port for allowing introduction of slurry solution. In an in-tank or batch grinder, inlet ports are provided on both sides of the housing through each outer disc. Inner surfaces of the outer discs and both surfaces of the rotatable disc have a series of outwardly extending grooves which taper in depth from a central location of each disc to a peripheral portion of each disc. Gap adjustment mechanisms are provided to separately adjust the gaps between the outer discs and the rotating discs. Spring based connections are provided between the outer discs to allow relative, biased movement.

Apparatus and methods for wet grinding

Wet grinding apparatus including a grinding unit having first and second outer plates forming a housing with an inner chamber. A rotatable disc is housed in the inner chamber. A drive shaft is attached to the rotatable disc and extends centrally through one side of the housing. The other side of the housing includes a central inlet port for allowing introduction of slurry solution. A peripheral edge surface of the housing includes one or more outlet ports. Inner surfaces of the first and second outer plates and both surfaces of the rotatable disc have a series of outwardly extending grooves which taper in depth from a central location of each disc to a peripheral portion of each disc. The rotatable disc further includes a plurality of central feed ports or openings in communication with grooves on each side of the rotatable disc. The grinding method and operation of the apparatus include feeding slurry solution containing particles into the grooves and rotating the rotatable disc to reduce the size of the particles in the slurry solution while transferring the slurry solution to the outlet or outlets of the grinding unit.

A wet grinding machine which includes a grinder head, an annular stator having a mounting portion mounted on the grinder head and joined by a body portion to a skirt portion, and a rotor rotatably mounted on the grinder head. The rotor includes a hub portion joined by an annular body portion to an annular skirt portion inside of the annular stator. Outwardly extending slots in the body portion of the rotor define shearing blades in the body portion. Outwardly extending shearing slots in the body portion of the stator are opposed to the shearing blades. Each of the shearing slots slopes and overlaps at least one adjacent shearing blade. As the rotor turns, each of the blades is constantly opposed to and addresses at least one of the shearing slots. There are inlet openings in the stator skirt and in the rotor skirt. The rotor is turned to cause the rotor blades to induce a slurry to flow through the inlet openings of the stator skirt and rotor skirt and rotor body to the shearing slots and to shear particles of slurry entering the shearing slots. The stator skirt being extendable to receive slurry to be ground at a desired location spaced from the grinder head, and an eductor for adding material to the slurry moving through the rotor skirt so the material is substantially evenly mixed in the slurry exiting from the grinder head.

Wet grinding machine

A wet grinding machine which includes a grinder head, an annular stator mounted on the grinder head, and a rotor rotatably mounted in the grinder head. Shearing blades on the rotor turn inside the stator and sweep across shearing slots in the stator. Each of the shearing slots slopes and overlaps adjacent shearing slots so that each of the blades is constantly addressing an inner edge of at least one of the shearing slots. A classifying screen chamber surrounds the stator but is independent of the grinding machine so that particles of reduced size can pass through the screen to be removed while larger particles are retained and sheared by the rotor blades against inner edges of the slots.
