A neuromodulation system is provided herein. The system can include a cuff electrode, an electronics package, which can be part of a neuromodulation device; an external controller; a sensor; and a computing device. The neuromodulation device can include an antenna including an upper and a lower coil electrically connected to each other in parallel. The computing device can execute a closed-loop algorithm based on physiological sensed data relating to sleep.

Systems and methods for improving sleep disordered breathing

A neuromodulation lead that is biased towards a substantially omega shape when fully deployed is provided. The neuromodulation lead includes a left set of electrodes disposed on a left portion of the lead body of the neuromodulation lead and a right set of electrodes disposed on a right portion of the lead body of the neuromodulation lead. The neuromodulation lead can be positioned in the plane between the genioglossus muscle and the geniohyoid muscle.

Systems and methods for producing asynchronous neural responses to treat pain and/or other patient conditions are disclosed. A method in accordance with a particular embodiment includes selecting a target stimulation frequency that is above a threshold frequency, with the threshold frequency corresponding to a refractory period for neurons of a target sensory neural population. The method can further include producing a patient sensation of paresthesia by directing an electrical signal to multiple sensory neurons of the target sensory neural population at the stimulation frequency, with individual neurons of the sensory neural population completing corresponding individual refractory periods at different times, resulting in an asynchronous sensory neuron response to the electrical signal.

Systems and methods for producing asynchronous neural responses to treat pain and/or other patient conditions

Neural stimulation is provided according to a closed loop algorithm to treat sleep disordered breathing (SOB), including obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). The closed loop algorithm is executed by a system comprising a processor (which can be within the neural stimulator). The closed loop algorithm includes monitoring physiological data (e.g., EMG data) recorded by a sensor implanted adjacent to an anterior lingual muscle; identifying a trigger within the physiological data, wherein the trigger is identified as a biomarker for a condition related to sleep (e.g., inspiration); and applying a rule-based classification (which can learn) to the trigger to determine whether one or more parameters of a stimulation should be altered based on the biomarker.

Systems and methods to improve sleep disordered breathing using closed-loop feedback

One aspect of the present disclosure relates to a system for treating obstructive sleep apnea in a subject. The system can include a power source and a neuromuscular stimulator in electrical communications with the power source. The neuromuscular stimulator can include a controller and at least one electrode. The controller can be configured to receive certain power and stimulation parameters associated with a therapy signal from the power source. The at least one electrode can be configured to deliver the therapy signal to a target tissue associated with control of a posterior base of the tongue of the subject.

System and method for treating obstructive sleep apnea

Neural stimulation is provided according to a closed loop algorithm to treat sleep disordered breathing (SDB), including obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). The closed loop algorithm is executed by a system comprising a processor (which can be within the neural stimulator). The closed loop algorithm includes monitoring physiological data (e.g., EMG data) recorded by a sensor implanted adjacent to an anterior lingual muscle; identifying a trigger within the physiological data, wherein the trigger is identified as a biomarker for a condition related to sleep (e.g., inspiration); and applying a rule-based classification (which can learn) to the trigger to determine whether one or more parameters of a stimulation should be altered based on the biomarker.

A wireless implantable neuromuscular stimulator includes an antenna for producing an induced current in response to being disposed in an electromagnetic field. The antenna includes a substrate having an upper surface and a lower surface. An upper coil including a plurality of coil turns is disposed on the upper surface of the substrate. A lower coil including a plurality of coil turns is disposed on the lower surface of the substrate. The upper and lower coils are electrically connected to each other in parallel. The parallel connection can be facilitated by a plurality of connectors that extend through the substrate and electrically connect the upper coil to the lower coil. In one example configuration, connectors connect each coil turn of the upper coil to a corresponding turn of the lower coil.

Implantable stimulation power receiver, systems and methods

An intra-oral appliance to power and/or communicate with a neurostimulator is provided. The intra-oral appliance can include a teeth covering configured to fit over mandibular incisor, canine and/or premolar teeth of a human being and a remote controller in the form of a housing extending posteriorly from and operably connected to the teeth covering. The housing can include a power source, a coupling coil configured to transmit power to the neurostimulator and configured to receive power from an external charger, and electrical circuitry operably connected to the coupling coil and the power source.

Intra-oral appliances and systems

A neuromodulation system is provided herein. The system can include a neuromodulation device, an electronics package, which can be part of the neuromodulation device; an external controller; a sensor; and a computing device. The neuromodulation device can include a neuromodulation lead having a lead body configured to be bent to a desired shape and to maintain that shape in order to position the electrodes relative to neural and/or muscular structures when fully deployed. The neuromodulation device can also include an antenna including an upper and a lower coil electrically connected to each other in parallel. The computing device can execute a closed-loop algorithm based on physiological sensed data relating to sleep.

Described are systems and methods for preventing, diagnosing, and/or treating one or more medical conditions. The medical conditions can be ocular and/or neurological diseases, disorders, and/or conditions. The systems and methods can employ a microstimulator that is configured to be placed within an anatomical structure of a subject. The microstimulator can be capacitively linked to an external electronic device to provide neuromodulation to a biological target site proximal to the anatomical structure. The microstimulator can include a body and an electrically conductive insert arranged within the body to create a capacitively coupled link with the external electronic device. The electrically conductive insert can receive a power signal from an external electronic device and convert the power signal to deliver a therapy signal to the biological target site.

Systems and methods for preventing, diagnosing, and/or treating one or more medical conditions via neuromodulation

Therapy systems for treating a patient are disclosed. Representative therapy systems include an implantable pulse generator, a signal delivery device electrically coupled to the pulse generator, and a remote control in electrical communication with the implantable pulse generator. The pulse generator can have a computer-readable medium containing instructions for performing a process that comprises collecting the patient status and stimulation parameter; analyzing the collected patient status and stimulation parameter; and establishing a preference baseline containing a preferred stimulation parameter corresponding to a particular patient status.

Systems and methods for delivering neural therapy correlated with patient status
