A fluid analyzer for a downhole tool positionable in a wellbore penetrating a subterranean formation is provided. The fluid analyzer includes an optical sensor positioned in the downhole tool to receive a downhole fluid therefrom. The optical sensor includes an optical cell to measure properties of the downhole fluid in a flowline of the downhole tool, and has a wavelength range. The fluid analyzer also includes a calibration fluid having a liquid that absorbs outside of the wavelength range, and a calibrator. The calibrator includes a fluid source housing the calibration fluid and at least one valve. The fluid source is operatively connectable to the optical sensor to provide the calibration fluid thereto whereby the calibration fluid is measureable by and calibratable to the optical sensor.

Methods of evaluating a downhole fluid with a downhole tool. The downhole tool is positionable in a wellbore penetrating a subterranean formation, and has a probe positionable adjacent a wall of the wellbore and pumps, the probe having a sampling inlet and a contamination inlet to draw fluid from the formation into the downhole tool with the pumps. The methods involve pumping fluid into the downhole tool through the sampling inlet and the contamination inlet, varying the pumping of the fluid through the sampling inlet and the contamination inlet at a plurality of flow rates, measuring parameters of the fluid passing through the sampling inlet and the contamination inlet (the fluid parameters comprising optical density), and determining cleanup of contamination during sampling by examining changes in optical density of the fluid entering the sampling inlet at the flow rates.

A method for monitoring oil based mud filtrate contamination is provided including steps of analytically dividing a fluid stream into two parts, determining a gas/oil ratio for a native fluid determining an apparent gas/oil ratio for the contaminated fluid and determining on a volume fraction, an oil based contamination level based upon the gas/oil ratio for the native fluid and the apparent gas/oil ratio for the contaminated fluid.

Example methods, apparatus and articles of manufacture to process measurements of wires vibrating in fluids are disclosed. A disclosed example apparatus includes a downhole assembly and a surface assembly. The downhole assembly including a sensor to measure a waveform representative of a motion of a wire vibrating within a fluid at a downhole location in a wellbore, a waveform modeler to compute a model parameter from the measured waveform, and a first telemetry module to transmit the computed model parameter to a surface location. The surface assembly including a second telemetry module to receive the computed model parameter from the downhole assembly, and a viscosity analyzer to estimate a viscosity of the fluid from the computed model parameter.

Methods, apparatus and articles of manufacture to process measurements of wires vibrating in fluids

Methods and apparatus to evaluate subterranean formations are described. An example method of evaluating a subterranean formation includes, obtaining a first sample from a first wellbore location. Additionally, the example method includes obtaining a second sample from a second wellbore location different than the first wellbore location. Further, the example method includes mixing the first sample with the second sample in a flowline to obtain a substantially homogenous mixture. Further still, the example method includes measuring a parameter of the mixture to evaluate the subterranean formation.
