Inserts and features to reduce or prevent spline crash in surgical staplers and/or to minimize damage resulting from spline crash in surgical staplers. An insert for a surgical stapler includes a body and spline covers. The body is configured to fit within a bore of a shell assembly and the spline covers extend inward from the body. Each of the spline covers are sized and dimensioned to cap a distal portion of splines of the shell assembly. A shell assembly for a surgical stapler includes shell splines that are disposed on an inner wall of an inner housing portion that defines a bore. The shell splines include a lead spline that has a leading end positioned distal of a leading end of each of the other shell splines.

Inserts, splines, and methods for reducing and/or eliminating spline crash in surgical instruments

A handheld electromechanical surgical device, capable of effectuating a surgical procedure, includes a handle assembly having a power source; at least one motor coupled to the power source; and a controller configured to control the motor. The surgical device includes an adapter assembly having an electrical assembly having a proximal end in communication with the controller of the handle assembly. The surgical device includes a reload configured to selectively connect to a distal end of the adapter assembly. The reload includes an annular array of staples; an annular staple pusher for ejecting the staples; and a data storage device selectively connectable to a distal end of the electrical assembly. The data storage device receives and stores performance data of the surgical device from the controller of the handle assembly.

Handheld electromechanical surgical system

A force sensor includes a substrate, sensing elements, a flex cable, and a seal assembly. The substrate has proximal and distal surfaces, and a cavity defined therein. The sensing elements are disposed within the cavity of the substrate and the pin block assembly is electrically coupled to the sensing elements. The seal assembly includes at least one gasket, a retainer plate, and a seal restraint. The seal assembly is held under compressive load to seal the cavity of the substrate and protect the sensing element disposed therein.

Mechanical compression hermetic force sensors for surgical devices

A surgical device includes a handle assembly having a controller and an adapter assembly including a tubular housing having a proximal end portion configured to couple to the handle assembly and a distal end portion. The adapter assembly also includes a load sensing assembly disposed with the tubular housing. The load sensing assembly is configured to measure a load exerted on the tubular housing and includes: a sensor body having a pocket defined therein; a load sensor circuit disposed within the pocket and coupled to the sensor body; and a signal processing circuit disposed within the pocket and electrically coupled to the load sensor circuit. The load sensing assembly further includes a cover disposed over the pocket and enclosing the load sensor circuit and the signal processing circuit therein, the cover being coupled to the sensor body thereby forming a first hermetic seal therebetween. The surgical device further includes a surgical end effector configured to couple to the distal end portion of the adapter assembly.

End effector force measurement with digital drive circuit

A surgical system includes a power source, a handle housing, a motor, an adapter assembly, an end effector, and a correction unit. The motor is disposed within the handle housing and is in electrical communication with the power source. The adapter assembly is operably coupled to the handle housing and supports an input and an output shaft coupled by the universal joint. The input shaft is in mechanical communication with the motor. The end effector is coupled to the adapter assembly and is selectively articulatable relative to the adapter assembly. The correction unit is in electrical communication with the power source and the motor and is configured to adjust the input shaft speed of the input shaft to maintain a substantially constant output shaft speed of the output shaft as the end effector articulates relative to the adapter assembly.
