A thermal ink jet ink composition include a volatile organic solvent, a binder resin, a dye, a humectant in an amount from 1% to 40% by weight of the ink composition, and an additive for extending the decap time. The additive is present in an amount greater than 0.1% by weight of the thermal ink jet ink composition. The additive is selected from fluorinated surfactants, ionic surfactants, and nonionic surfactants.

Thermal ink jet ink composition with additive

A thermal ink jet ink composition includes one or more volatile organic solvents, wherein the one or more volatile organic solvents are selected from C-Calcohols, C-Cketones, C-Cesters, C-Cethers, and mixtures thereof; one or more binder resins; and one or more dyes. The ink composition is suitable for use in a thermal ink jet printer and the ink composition has a slow rate of kogation such that it is capable of being printed at least 10 million drops per nozzle from the thermal ink jet printer before drop weight of the ink composition is reduced by more than 10%.

Thermal ink jet ink composition

A thermal ink jet ink composition includes at least 50% by weight volatile organic solvent selected from C-Calcohols, C-Cketones, C-Cesters, C-Cethers, and mixtures thereof; a colorant; a humectant present in an amount from about 1% to about 30% by weight; from 0.3% to 8% by weight of a binder resin; and not more than 5% by weight water; wherein the ink composition is compatible with components of a thermal ink jet printer.

A thermal ink jet ink composition include a volatile organic solvent, a binder resin, a dye, a humectant in an amount from 1% to 40% by weight of the ink composition, and an additive for extending the decap time. The additive is present in an amount greater than 0.01% by weight of the thermal ink jet ink composition. The additive is selected from fluorinated surfactants, ionic surfactants, and nonionic surfactants.

A capping device for an ink jet print head, includes a base, the base configured to receive an ink jet print head comprising nozzles for ejecting ink in a print direction, and a cap assembly attached to the base and configured for movement between a closed position when the print head is not printing and an open position to allow for the ejection of ink from the nozzles when the print head is printing. The cap assembly includes a cover support configured for generally planar movement with respect to the base in a direction perpendicular to the print direction and a cover attached to the cover support in a generally planar relationship thereto. The cover is adapted to provide additional movement with respect to the cover support in a direction different from the planar movement in the direction perpendicular to the print direction.

Capping device

An inkjet ink includes an organic solvent, a resin, a surfactant, and a colorant. The ink has a decap time of at least about 1 minute.

An inkjet printing system includes a print head in fluid communication with an ink reservoir and having a plurality of orifices and a corresponding plurality of associated ejection chambers. The print head includes a substrate and a barrier layer disposed on the substrate. The barrier layer defines in part a plurality of fluid channels and the plurality of ejection chambers. The barrier layer includes a material selected from epoxy-based photo resist materials and methyl methacrylate-based photo resist materials. An orifice plate is disposed over the substrate. The orifice plate includes the plurality of orifices in fluid communication with the ejection chambers. The system includes a reservoir containing an organic solvent-based ink composition, wherein the ink composition includes an organic solvent selected from C-Calcohols, C-Cketones, C-Cesters, C-Cethers, and mixtures thereof, in an amount 60% or more by weight of the ink composition.

Thermal inkjet print head with solvent resistance

A thermal ink jet ink composition includes one or more volatile organic solvents, one or more solvent dyes, and one or more humectants. The one or more volatile organic solvents are selected from C-Calcohols, C-Cethers, C-Cketones, C-Cesters, and mixtures thereof. The one or more solvent dyes are soluble in the organic solvent or solvents with a solubility of at least 0.1% by weight. The thermal ink jet ink composition is free or substantially free of tetrahydrofuran, binder resin, and water.

A thermal ink jet ink composition include a volatile organic solvent, a binder resin, a dye, a humectant in an amount less than 40% by weight of the thermal ink jet ink composition, and an additive for extending the decap time. The additive is present in an amount greater than 0.1% by weight of the thermal ink jet ink composition. The additive is selected from plasticizers, surfactants, aliphatic hydrocarbons, drying oils and mixtures thereof. The additive does not phase separate from the ink jet composition during application of the ink to a substrate in thermal ink jet printing.

A method of preparing an inkjet printing system with a print head in fluid communication with an ink reservoir and having a plurality of orifices and a corresponding plurality of associated ejection chambers includes providing a substrate and disposing a photoresist material on the substrate. A mask is provided between the UV light source and the photoresist material. The photoresist material is exposed to the UV light source to polymerize the photoresist material to form a barrier layer on the substrate. The barrier layer defines in part a plurality of fluid channels and the plurality of ejection chambers. An orifice plate is attached over the substrate. The orifice plate includes a plurality of orifices in fluid communication with the ejection chambers.

A thermal ink jet ink composition includes one or more volatile organic solvents, one or more humectants, one or more binder resins, one or more dyes, and one or both of a surfactant and a plasticizer. The one or more volatile organic solvents are selected from C-Calcohols, C-Cketones, C-Cethers, C-Cesters, and mixtures thereof. The one or more humectants are present in an amount not more than 30% by weight of the ink jet ink composition. The ink jet ink composition optionally includes water up to 10% by weight of the ink jet ink composition.

A solvent-based ink composition for a thermal inkjet printhead includes (a) 55-90 wt. % of an organic solvent including a ketone and a Cto Calcohol; and (b) 0.01-10 wt. % of a colorant.
