An anchor bracket for use in a disc brake assembly comprises first and second arms, first and second windows, and first and second rotor channels. The first arm has a first rotor notch and the second arm has a second rotor notch. The first window is cast in the first arm and the second window is cast in the second arm. The first rotor channel is machined from the first rotor notch to the first window and the second rotor channel is machined from the second rotor notch to the second window.

A brake caliper adapted for use in a vehicle disc brake assembly and method and apparatus for producing the same. The apparatus for producing the brake caliper comprises a mold member and a core member. The mold member has two mold sections meeting at a vertical interface, the first mold section having an extension from the vertical interface into the second mold section to form an integrally cast lug on the brake caliper. The core member has three extensions operative to form three integrally cast locating surfaces on the cast brake caliper, the extensions defining datum surfaces for subsequent machining of the cast brake caliper to predetermined tolerances using the three locating surfaces as the datum surfaces.

Brake caliper for disc brake assembly and method and apparatus for producing same

A drum-in-hat (DIH) disc brake assembly has a backing plate configured to be supported relative to an axle flange and to support a drum brake shoe assembly of the drum-in-hat parking and emergency brake; a caliper bracket configured to be supported relative to the axle flange and to support a disc brake caliper assembly of the disc service brake; and a parking brake anchor configured to be supported relative to the axle flange. The parking brake anchor includes an anchor body and an abutment. The anchor body has an opening formed therein which is configured to receive a lever arm of a parking and emergency brake actuator which extends through the opening in the anchor body.

Drum-in-hat disc brake assembly

A drum-in-hat (DIH) disc brake assembly has a disc service brake, a DIH parking and emergency brake, and a parking brake anchor. A backing plate, an axle flange, and a caliper bracket each have at least two mounting apertures formed therethrough. The parking brake anchor includes a bracket portion having a pair of studs extending axially outwardly therefrom. The studs are structured and configured to extend through the respective mounting apertures of the backing plate, the axle flange, and the caliper bracket for securing the caliper bracket, parking brake anchor, and the backing plate to the axle flange.

A drum-in-hat disc brake assembly has a disc service brake and a drum-in-hat parking and emergency brake, and includes a backing plate, a pair of parking and emergency brake shoes secured to the backing plate, and a parking and emergency brake actuator. The parking and emergency brake actuator includes a first body portion and a second body portion pivotally mounted to the first body portion. A boss extends between the first body portion and the second body portion. The boss is selectively movable between a plurality of positions and defines a first distance between the first body portion and the second body portion. A lever arm is pivotally mounted to the second body portion and is connected to a parking and emergency brake cable.

Parking and emergency brake actuator for a drum-in-hat disc brake assembly

This invention relates to a drum-in-hat disc brake assembly. According to one embodiment of the invention, only four fasteners extend through the associated apertures of the backing plate, the drum-in-hat adapter, the axle flange and the caliper bracket for securing the caliper bracket, drum-in-hat adapter and the backing plate to the axle flange. Two of the four fasteners extend through the two apertures of the caliper bracket and at least partially into two of the four apertures of the axle flange to thereby secure the caliper bracket to the axle flange. The other two of the four fasteners extend through the two smaller apertures of the backing plate and the drum-in-hat adapter and at least partially into the remaining two apertures of the axle flange to thereby secure the backing plate and the drum-in-hat adapter to the axle flange.

This invention relates to a brake shoe mounting system for a vehicle brake assembly. The vehicle brake assembly brake shoe mounting system includes a brake mounting member and a pair of brake shoes slidably supported relative to the brake mounting member. The brake member is adapted to be secured to a fixed, non-rotatable component of the vehicle and includes an abutment having a pair of opposed slots formed therein. Each brake shoe includes a first end, an opposite second end, a web portion, a rim portion secured to an outer surface of the web portion, a friction pad secured to an outer surface of the rim portion, and only two shoe slides provided on at least one side of the rim portion. One of the two shoe slides is provided near the first end of the brake shoe and the other of the two shoe slides is provided generally intermediate the first and second ends of the brake shoe. In accordance with this invention, the second end of the brake shoe defines a shoe abutment end. The shoe abutment end is disposed in the slot of the abutment and in contact with an associated surface of the slot of the abutment to thereby define a third shoe slide of the brake shoe.
