The invention relates to a new and improved apparatus for removing suspended matter from liquid. The apparatus has a single cell vertical cylindrical hydraulic flotation vessel which is provided with a separation wall to separate a lower gasification chamber from a middle degasification chamber and an upper gas chamber. A number of alternative arrangements are provided for controlling skim collection through controlling volume of liquid within the vessel and changing the volume of liquid through the use of adjustable timer which intermittently send signals to outlet valves of the skim collection outlet or of the treated liquid outlet. The invention provides for alternative arrangement of introducing liquid into the vessel, so as to achieve more intimate mixing of gas and liquid introduced into the vessel.

Single cell vertical static flow flotation unit

The invention relates to an apparatus for removal of suspended matter from a liquid, such as used for treatment of oil containing water. A cylindrical horizontal vessel is divided into a single gasification chamber and a single degasification chamber by a partition which extends through the interior chamber of the vessel and allows fluid communication between the two chambers. A liquid to be treated is introduced through distribution header(s) adjacent a bottom of the vessel and/or an alternative inlet nozzle which is combined with a gas eductor in order to achieve a more intimate mixture of the gas and liquid. The gas eductor has its outlet slightly above the outlet of the distribution headers. The released gas bubbles carry oil and suspended matter towards the upper portion of the vessel, from which the froth is collected through a primary skim collection trough which extends through the gasification chamber and from a vertically adjustable, based on specific gravity, secondary skim collection funnel in the degasification chamber. Skim collection is accomplished through control of the liquid level in the vessel.

Induced static single flotation cell

An ultrasonic streaming current detector for developing, on a continuous basis, an electric signal which is a function of the charge condition existing in a stream containing charged particles. The present invention has a cross shaped housing having a cross member and a longitudinal member containing a pump chamber having a reciprocating piston on a pair of signal generating electrodes. A fluid injection connection is provided to the base of the longtudinal member. The piston pumps a sample stream within the pump chamber, creating a reciprocating shear force against the sample stream, generating an electric signal across the electrodes. The generated signal is representative of the average electric charge of the suspended particles in the sample stream. To prevent buildup of sample particles in the pump chamber, which would bias the signal, a periodic wash backflow of a fluid is injected into the pump chamber, preferably at a point opposite the point of sample fluid injection. This jet wash purges the pump chambers, maintaining the accuracy of the sample stream.

An ultrasonic streaming current detector for developing on a continuous basis, electrical signal which is a function of the charge condition existing in the stream containing charged particles therein, for thereby facilitating the determination of the dosage of floculate to be added to a charge implacing species field stream, for thereby ultimately controlling floculation of such streams. The present invention employs a cross-shaped housing having cross-member and a longitudinal member, a piston receiving member, a reciprocating piston, a pair of electrodes, a meter recorder and a electrical mortar. The piston pumps, the simple stream within its interior and by means of this reciprocating shear force against the simple stream generating an electrical signal across electrodes dispositioned at either end of the pump stroke of the piston to thereby generate an electrical signal through lead wires connected to a meter recorder box. The circuitry of the meter recorder box converts the electrical signal into a routable form which is representative of the average electrical charge of the suspended particles in said simple stream.

Ultrasonic streaming current detector

A continuous clarification apparatus provides a vessel having a bottom portion and a preferably cylindrical and upwardly extending sidewall defining therewithin a liquid retaining space at least partially filled with a 'floc' carrier forming a moving media bed with flow normally being downwardly through the bed. A clear water discharge outlet allows the discharge of clarified effluent from the vessel. An inlet header allows the addition of an influent to be clarified into the vessel. A vertically extending inner separation wall generally concentric with the vessel sidewall defines a moving bed area and an annulus area. The annulus area provides a lower scour zone, a middle return zone and an uppermost reject zone. The floc carrier is placed within the moving bed area and an aeration means is placed within the vessel annulus with the air being bubbled upwardly in the annulus during continuous cleansing. A pumping created in part by the aeration conveys the lowermost and dirtiest portion of the moving bed to the annulus scour zone where it is lifted thereinto and cleansed. In the scour zone the media is scoured and expanded to clean the moving bed and individual floc carrier particles. As the floc carrier particles rise, individual particles enter a return zone and are directed back to the moving bed, while concentrated detached floc particles enter the reject area for disposal.
