An improved guard for a medical cartridge, such as a unit dose pre-filled glass syringe, comprising a body for receiving the cartridge, and a shield slidably attached to the body which are pre-assembled and ready to receive a cartridge therein. The body has a locking mechanism on a proximal end thereof which holds the cartridge therein. The body and shield have cooperating detents and detent pockets which allow the shield to be directed distally, from an unguarded position in which the needle on the cartridge is uncovered for delivery of medication, to a guarded position in which the needle is permanently covered for disposal. The body may also include a substantially rectangular-shaped finger grip on its proximal end for receiving a similarly shaped proximal flange on the cartridge, whereby the cartridge is received in a predetermined orientation.

An improved guard for a medical cartridge, such as a unit dose pre-filled glass syringe, comprising a body for receiving the cartridge, and a shield slidably attached to the body which are pre-assembled and ready to receive a cartridge therein. The body has a locking mechanism on a proximal end thereof which holds the cartridge therein. The body and shield have cooperating detents and detent pockets which allow the shield to be directed distally, from an unguarded position in which the needle on the cartridge is uncovered for delivery of medication, to a guarded position in which the needle is permanently covered for disposal. The body may also include a substantially rectangular-shaped finger grip on its proximal end for receiving a similarly shaped proximal flange on the cartridge, whereby the cartridge is received in a predetermined orientation. The body may also include one or more ribs within the cavity for accommodating a cartridge with a large needle cap, such as a 0.5 mL capacity pre-filled syringe. In addition, the guard may include a finger grip plug lockably attachable to the proximal end of the body, and a plunger insertable through the finger grip plug to engage a piston in a cartridge not having its own plunger. The plunger may include a one-way locking member to prevent removal of the plunger from the finger grip plug after assembly.

There is disclosed herein a syringe with a protector case which holds a carpule and permits the injection of fluid contained in the carpule into the patient. The syringe is molded of plastic or other suitable material which is sterilizable. The device comprises several parts including a body, protector case, needle, needle cap, plug, plunger and harpoon. The harpoon can be integrally molded on the plunger. The major components of the device preferably are molded from a suitable plastic and may be clear or of a color like or similar to a surgical glove.

Disposable self-shielding aspirating syringe

The present invention is directed to an improved guard for a medical cartridge, such as a unit dose syringe or ampule, comprising a body for receiving the cartridge, and a shield slidably attached to the body. In one form, the guard includes only two parts which are preassembled and ready to receive a cartridge having its own plunger. The body has locking detents which permanently hold the cartridge in the guard, and has cooperating detents and detent pockets which allow the shield to be directed distally, from an unguarded position in which the needle on the cartridge is uncovered for delivery of medication, to a guarded position in which the needle is permanently covered for disposal. In a second form, the guard also includes a plunger assembly for a cartridge not having its own plunger. The plunger assembly is locked onto the body, permanently holding the cartridge received therein. The parts of the device are preferably molded from plastic and may be clear or of a color, such as a latex color or skin tone.

Disposable self-shielding hypodermic syringe

There are disclosed herein medical syringe and catheter devices which preferably can be disposable and non-reusable and which have features to minimize users from accidentally stabbing themselves before or after use. They comprise relatively slidable members for covering and uncovering a needle. A butterfly wing IV catheter is disclosed including a body having laterally extending tabs to help hold the catheter in place, along with a slide member configured to fit and slide within an opening in the body member and which member includes a needle and a hollow fitting for receiving flexible tubing. The slider member includes a boss adapted to fit within pockets of the body member to define respective extended and retracted positions of the needle.

The disclosure relates to a syringe with a protector case which holds a glass carpule and permits the injection of the fluid contained in the carpule into the patient. The syringe is molded of plastic or other suitable material which is sterilizable. The device comprises seven parts including a body, protector case, needle, needle cap, plug, plunger and harpoon. The major components of the device preferably are molded from a suitable plastic and may be clear or of a color like or similar to a surgical glove.

There is disclosed herein a blood collection tube holder having a body and a protector case, and preferably with a dedicated needle attached to the body. The tube holder is molded of plastic or other suitable material which is sterilizable. The device comprises five parts including the body, protector case, needle, needle protective cap, and a needle boot. The protector case is mounted over the body, and the needle is attached to the body and extends through an opening in the protector case. The needle is covered by the needle protective cap which is removably attached to a needle hub on the end of the body. The needle protective cap is removed for use, and after use the protector case is moved with respect to the body until detents engage openings to thereby lock the protector case in a position shielding the needle. The construction of the holder is such that the practitioner can hold the protector case against the arm of a patient with the index finger and draw the body of the holder rearward with the thumb and forefinger, thereby enabling use with one hand.

There is disclosed herein a hypodermic syringe which is disposable and intended to be non-reusable. The syringe includes a body and a protector case which slidably contains the body to uncover the needle of the syringe for use and to cover the same after use. The case and body incorporate a detent arrangement for holding the body within the protector case in respective first and second positions. The protector case can include a surface providing a data recording area.
