A holder for removably attaching a portable electronic device to an elongate support such as a tray table latch on a seatback with a stowable tray table comprises a clamp frame, a spring compression lever slidably attached to the clamp frame, a flexible band for suspending the clamp frame from the elongate support and a self-centering clamp for gripping opposite sides of the elongate support. The holder may optionally include a device adapter for attaching a selected electronic device. Another embodiment comprises steps in a method for holding a portable electronic device against a seatback having a stowable seatback tray table.

Seatback-mountable holder for a portable electronic device

A tray attached to a pivot housing, support arm, and armrest clamp may be easily and quickly detached and reattached to an armrest on a chair. The tray may rotate around an arm hub when a stationary lower index plate in the arm hub is displaced from an upper index plate in the index housing. The tray is restrained from rotation when the upper and lower index plates are in contact with one another. The tray may be disconnected from the support arm while the support arm remains clamped to an armrest. The armrest clamp includes a bevel gear driven in rotation by a clamping ring on the support arm. The bevel gear drives rack gear attached to a traveling clamp jaw. Rotating the clamping ring displaces the traveling clamp jaw relative to a stationary clamp jaw, enabling the armrest clamp to securely clamp to an armrest.

Tray with armrest clamp

A clamping apparatus removably attachable to an elongate support such as a tray table latch on a seatback with a stowable tray table includes a pair of opposing hand grips slidably coupled to a clamp frame. Each hand grip includes a clamp jaw protruding from a back side of the clamp frame. A spring urges the hand grips apart and the clamp jaws toward one another. A flexible band attached to both hand grips is provided for suspending the clamp frame. When a person releases the opposing hand grips, the flexible band partially retracts into the clamp frame, drawing the frame against the latch, and the two clamp jaws grip opposite sides of the latch. Compressing the hand grips laterally toward one another extends the flexible band out of the clamp frame and displaces the two clamp jaws away from one another.
