A sensor assignment device includes a movement instruction generator for generating and submitting a movement instruction to a distinct one of a plurality of actuators to move a distinct one of a plurality of machine parts, a sensor data receiver for receiving sensor data acquired by a subset of a plurality of sensors, a degree of correlation determiner for determining sensor-specific degrees of correlation between the detected sensor data and the movement instruction, and a sensor assigner for assigning those sensors to the distinct machine part whose sensor-specific degrees of correlation exceed a predetermined threshold or a multiple-step fashion as refinement in case of insufficiently reliable map of affiliations between sensors and machine parts. The received sensor data is used to influence the movement instruction.

Assignment of sensors to machine parts

A parametric amplifier device has a two port parametric amplifier, a DC voltage generator and a DC bias regulator. The bias regulator has a voltage regulator, an attenuator and a summer. Output voltages from the regulator and the attenuator are added in the summer.

Parametric amplifier device

An upconverter has a two port parametric amplifier that has a first port to receive an input signal to be amplified and upconverted and a second port to receive a local oscillator signal and to output the amplified, upconverted signal at upper and lower sideband frequencies. The upconverter further has an antenna coupled to the second port to receive the local oscillator signal and transmit the amplified, upconverted signal at upper and lower sideband frequencies and a low noise amplifier at the first port of the parametric amplifier, which is powered by the local oscillator signal.

Upconverter

A magnetic resonance imaging system upconverter stage has a number of local coils and a number of upconverters to receive a signal from an output of each coil. Each upconverter has a number of two port upconverter cores, each core having a first port to receive a signal from a local coil and a second port to output an upconverted signal at upper and lower sideband frequencies through an antenna coupled to the second port. The inputs of the plurality of upconverter cores are connected in parallel, and at least one antenna is associated with the second port of each core.

A method for calibration of a magnetic resonance imaging system having a bore, a body coil mounted in the bore, a patient mat, a number of local coils mounted in the patient mat, an upconversion stage having a number of upconverters, and a processing stage, includes the steps of generating a calibration signal in the body coil; receiving the calibration signal at the local coils, upconverting the signal from the local coils in the upconversion stage, transmitting the upconverted signal to the processing stage, synchronously downconverting the signal in the processing stage using the calibration signal generated in the body coil, and processing the downconverted signal to generate an overall path complex gain.

Calibration method

An upconverter has a low noise amplifier, a two port mixer and an antenna. The two port mixer comprises a first port to receive from the low noise amplifier an amplified input signal to be upconverted and a second port to receive a local oscillator signal and to output the amplified, upconverted signal at upper and lower sideband frequencies. The low noise amplifier is coupled to the first port; and the antenna is coupled to the second port.

A wireless magnetic resonance imaging scanner has one or more local coils, a microwave antenna array, and a local oscillator, and an upconverter. The local oscillator signal from the local oscillator is transmitted from the microwave antenna array to illuminate the local coils. The local coils generate magnetic resonance signals at a first frequency and the magnetic resonance signals at the first frequency are upconverted in the upconverter to microwave frequencies. The local oscillator operates at a frequency within an unlicensed band, chosen such that desired sidebands for reception of the upconverted local coil magnetic resonance signals fall outside the unlicensed band.

In a method of compensating for the effects of motion of an image subject during magnetic resonance imaging using phase encoding in a magnetic resonance imaging system having a number of wireless local coils and a wireless microwave transceiver array, one or more phase encoding steps are implemented to derive one or more magnetic resonance signals in the wireless coils. The signals from the phase encoding steps are upconverted to generate upper and lower sidebands of the magnetic resonance signals; and the upconverted upper and lower sideband signals are transmitted to the microwave array. Signals are derived from the upper and lower sidebands; and a representative phase difference between the signals derived from the upper and lower sidebands is determined from one or more of the phase encoding steps; then the representative phase difference is applied to each pair of derived signals for every phase encoding step to produce phase compensated signal pairs; such that the pair of signals are moved more closely into phase.

Motion compensation in magnetic resonance imaging

A method of maintaining a communication link between a network node and a mobile node of a communications network comprises providing at least two downlink transmission beams (A to D) and designating a first of the at least two beams as a primary transmission beam (e.g. B). The beams are used in accordance with a schedule. Received signal quality or signal strength measurements are taken at the mobile node and signaled to the network node. A quality of link on the primary transmission beam (e.g. B) and at least one other of the at least two transmission beams (e.g. A, C) is determined from the measurements signaled from the mobile node to the network node and the quality of link for the beams is compared to provide a comparison and the schedule varied in accordance with the comparison.

Communications method and apparatus

An upconversion stage for a wireless magnetic resonance imaging system local coil array has a number of upconversion circuits. Each upconversion circuit includes a parametric amplifier, an antenna and a delay line between the amplifier and the antenna. The path length of the delay line in one upconversion circuit differs from the path length of the delay line in an adjacent upconversion circuit by a predetermined amount.

The apparatus transmits in a first zone, for example, an aircraft, a masking signal which masks transmissions from a second zone outside of the first. By doing this a mobile cellular telephone is inhibited from connecting or attempting to connect to base-stations on the ground. A hole in the masking signal spectrum may be provided to enable connection to a base-station within the aircraft. Alternatively, a base-station within the aircraft may be arranged to transmit at a power level greater than the masking signal.

A method of controlling interference from a transmitter () in one communication system to a receiver () in another communication system, the method comprising transmitting a beacon () beacon from a beacon transmitter associated with the receiver representative of a frequency at which the receiver is trying to receive; listening for the beacon at a beacon receiver associated with the transmitter; and deriving a power spectral density limit for a transmission () from the transmitter based upon the strength of the beacon received at the beacon receiver.

Method of controlling interference from a transmitter in one communication system to a receiver in another communication system

A method of transmission comprises receiving at a first destination, a transmission from a first source; determining from the transmission from the first source, the maximum permitted additional interference subject to which the first destination can still communicate; sending an acknowledgement of the transmission and including in the acknowledgement an indication of the determined maximum permitted additional interference. A second source determines whether it has received the transmission from the first source, or the acknowledgement from the first destination, at a power level lower than that of the maximum permitted additional interference given in the indication; and if so, the second source sends a transmission to a second destination, which at least partially overlaps in time, communication between the first source and first destination.

Method of transmission

Described herein is a method of providing synchronization between a plurality of base stations () in a telecommunications system which comprises providing a random access channel in each cell (). A local base station () uses the random access channel in the local cell to transmit a synchronization signal to neighboring base stations. For each base station, the time differences between received synchronization signals from neighboring base stations and the local synchronization signal are calculated. Each set of time differences is either used to autonomously synchronize the local base station or is centralized in a radio network controller and a set of corrections distributed from the RNC to the base stations.

Mobile telecommunications systems

In a method for improving signal extraction in a code division multiple access (CDMA) telecommunications system, a first iteration of interference cancellation is performed on the basis of bit rates for every signal which are the same as those in a previous frame of the same signal. Filtered and down-converted signals are demodulated in Rake receivers to provide output signals corresponding to decision variables and channel estimates. The decision variables are limited and remodulated and respread prior to the signals being reconstructed using the channel estimates. The reconstructed signals are summed, and each signal is subtracted from the sum to provide an 'interference' signal which is then used to obtain the individual signals. Each signal is then demodulated a second time in another Rake receiver to provide a tentative DPDCH signal, a TFI signal, a TPC signal and a SNI signal. The TFI signal is processed to provide a signal indicative of the bit rate which is used to both decode the DPDCH signal providing a data output and to provide an estimate of the bit rate for a subsequent frame of the same signal.
